best of 2008... pt 1

Jan 26, 2009 15:58

Usually, at the end of every year, I've made it a habit to post about what I thought was the best things to come out of 2008. And every time I tend to be more and more lazy about it.

This year I can't say much about movies or video games. I only saw a few movies in theaters... if you were to ask me I'd say Dark Knight or Ironman were the best movies... lol.

As for video games, the only console games I played were Final Fantasy 12 (which I loved.. OMG STEAM PUNK OMG WTF!!!!! ^__^;;; ), Battlefield 2, and some of the Armored Core series. I can't think of anything this year that stood out.

As for computer games, I mostly played online shooting games, like Counter Strike, TF2, Unreal Tournament 3, Battlefield 2. And Portal, of course. However, one game that did come out last year I do consider the best of that year.

The best game of 2008 is....drumroll please....
Left 4 Dead by Valve. A first-person shooter where you actually get to PLAY the zombie horde.

Anime

Anime's a little easier to figure out, as I watched more of it. But a lot of the stuff I watched was not actually made in 2008...in order of least liked to most liked: Negima, My Otome, Kite Liberator, Speed Grapher, Appleseed Ex Machina, Gunslinger Girl, Macross Frontier, Kamen no Maid Guy, Haruhi Suzumiya, Pani Poni Dash, My Hime, Hellsing Ultimate,Code Geass, and Gurren Lagann. Each of them I liked in many various ways...

As for anime that came out last year... not a lot of those. I've seen a few episodes of quite a few series that came out in 08 (Zetsubou, Mnemosyne, To Aru Majutsu no Index, Chaos;Head, Toradora, Kemeko Deluxe, and Slayers (should have watched more of this!)), but I did not see enough of these series to justify ranking them.

Best anime that actually came out in 2008 would be:

3. Macross Frontier - Has a lot of great action, but the whole idea of "We'll sing our enemies so they'll stop killing us" is stale.

2. Hellsing Ultimate - Deliciously violent, vampires, guns, zombies!

1. Code Geass R2 - I didn't like the series quite as much as the first one, as people kept on switching sides left and right, enemies became friends became enemies, and there were so many plot twists JUST FOR THE SAKE of plot twists, and the ending was somewhat depressing. But it still kicked 9 levels of ass.

As for TV series, only one TV series kicked the most ass last year and that was Battlestar Galactica.

As for music, you'll have to wait until my next post, as I'm spent.
