Jul 10, 2007 19:58

There are many of you on my friends list - and out there in LJ land - to which this information might be relevant.

If you remember a bar back at Merc named Shane.... cute little thing with a comic who liked to draw.... bicycle Shane...

Shane was in a car accident today and didn't make it.

He is no longer with us.

I can't do all the phone calls this ( Read more... )

Please send me what you have asap. Other people are trying to figure it out but quite frankly...

If they don't know him from that description then they simply didn't know him and are trying to jump on a bandwagon.

Sorry, but I drank tonight. My filters have all been washed away.

Careful with those judgments, doll. Remember that it took you some time to place Josh.

I'm not disagreeing that there is a bandwagon phenomena when people pass, but figuring out who is who takes more wisdom than I think most of us have, The simple fact is that people react very strangely, and in a very broad number of ways, to death.

Something Fes and I were talking about earlier: I think that some of this is the result of having a small, relatively close-knit scene. Whether or not you knew the departed well, chance are that their loss will still affect you, if only because someone you are friends with is grieving. There's a hole in the fabric that has impact on the rest of the structure. Also, I know that at least for me it's tough when someone my own age dies, especially if they were part of my community--it hits awfully close to home.

I remember the way I felt after the Capitol Hill shootings...I didn't know any of the victims, though I had crossed paths with Jeremy a time or two. A lot of my friends, however, know a couple of the folks very well. I felt really intense mourning, and I wasn't sure I had a right to.

Anyway, please know that's I'm not lecturing or trying to call you out. this is stuff that I'm still figuring out, and it helps to bounce the ideas off of someone else.
