Susan rapped on the doorway lightly with her knuckles, and smiled at the vice principal, then looked serious. "Do you have a moment, Zoe?"

Zoe smiled at Susan and waved her in. "Sure. What can I do for you?"

"This is difficult." Susan paced in front of Zoe's desk for a moment, searching for words, then stopped. "I'd like to ask for a release from my contract here. As soon as possible."

Susan sat down, looking torn. "Everything is too right. I-- I have a chance to go home." She clasped her hands tightly. "To Narnia, where Peter has been the last few years. I didn't think it was possible, but now...."

"Aaah." Zoe smiled at Susan again. "Is this an opportunity that might not come up again soon?"

"Not soon, no. I would probably be able to get back again, but the last time was sixteen years." Susan smiled weakly. "I've been searching for a way home for months, and then a day or so ago, we attempted this, and-- it worked. I didn't think it would. I've spent the last forty-eight hours trying to decide if I have the right to leave here."

"If going home is something you need to do, then you certainly have that right," Zoe said. "The school will find a way to survive without you, I'm sure, and it'll still be here if you ever want to come back. Is there someone else who the people you've been seeing can speak to?"

"I only have one patient at the school in active therapy now. I have a list of therapists I trust in D.C. that she can go to, and I've checked that they have time open. There should be someone available for her as early as next week, if she wants to switch immediately."

Susan sighed, looking relieved. "I am so sorry, Zoe. I wish I'd had the courage to try to return sooner, when you could have advertised before the term started. But I'm certain that you'll be able to find someone to fill my space quickly, there are plenty of qualified counselors who'd love the job."

"That sounds like it'll work out just fine," Zoe replied. "And don't worry. I'm sure we can find someone too. It's just good that you finally found your courage."

"Thank you." Susan got to her feet, and smiled a little more happily. "For everything. My year here has been-- magic. I wouldn't trade it. I'm going to miss this place, gremlins and attackas and all."
