Orphan Black

Just finished S1 of Orphan Black and am slightly obsessed. It's so good! I'm seriously in awe of Tatiana Maslany, and I have a massive crush on her. I always thought Nina Dobrev did an amazing job as Elena and Katherine (and she does, don't get me wrong), but Tatiana takes it to the next level. I totally get swept up in the story and characters, and even when there are three or four of her in the same scene -- and intellectually I know it's all Tatiana filmed at different times -- I never think about it when I'm watching. Kudos to her and also the editors and directors. And makeup and hair artists! Everyone is doing incredible work.

Also, I enjoy that the show takes place in Toronto, although for some reason they never actually say the name, and always crop out the CN Tower from shots. But they mention so many Toronto things -- calling the suburb of Scarborough "Scarberia," for example. That is SUCH a local thing to say. And they also namecheck Toronto neighbourhoods like the Junction, etc. It's fun to spot the locations too. Paul and Beth's condo is right by the Skydome Rogers Centre.

Speaking of Paul, J'ADORE. He grew on me like a delightful fungus. I remember Dylan Bruce as one of the douchey incarnations of Chris Hughes on ATWT (pre-Daniel Cosgrove), and at the start of OB was rather meh on him. But...

But then Paul got all angsty! With the scruffier facial hair! The tipping point for me was 107, with the forehead leaning, and the way he looks up at Sarah:

GUH. Sold.

I have many thoughts about everything, but no time right now to write them down. Oh, one thought: I can't believe Alison actually watched poor bitchy Ainsley get strangled by the garborator! That was brutal, and the comic music cues after were rather inappropriate. I hope Alison feels really bad about that! Also, I feel like Eric Johnson is a big enough actor that Ainsley's husband will play a later role, but perhaps not. I suppose he does need to eat, so just picked up a quick job. I ping-ponged on Alison's husband's guilt, and figured in the end that yeah, he's her monitor. Gah.

Love Felix and Mrs. S, although we all knew there was more to Mrs. S than she was letting on, yeah? And poor crazy Helena. I'm glad Sarah took her out, because it had to be done. Also love Art and his partner, and how the police are trying to figure it all out.

So excited S2 starts soon, although it was really a great show to marathon, so will likely wait for eps to pile up so I can roll around in them like a pig in shit.
