VERONICA MOVIE!
I loved it. I have some nitpicks, but overall I am just so satisfied.
Too tired to type more with my thumbs at the moment, but felt like I had to note it here for the record. I hope we'll get more, but if we don't I'm very happy. Oh, show. XOXO
p.s. Jason Dohring looks freaking amazing. Also, I'm so glad Logan in uniform was a surprise! Delights me to no end that he grew up and joined the navy. :)
ETA: Some more thoughts now that I've slept on it and am on my laptop.
Nitpicks:
Why was the killer someone we didn't know? There were so many tertiary characters from the show that could have filled that role. Sean Fredericks springs to mind, and the actor was clearly available! It's a shame that Leighton Meester was busy or whatever, and I don't really get why it had to be Carrie Bishop if they couldn't get her back. Were there no other characters from high school that were friends who could have stood in for Carrie and Susan in this scenario of the boat death? Hmm. Maybe not. But I definitely think it would have been more effective for Cobb to have been someone we knew.
A few of the comebacks were a little weak (I feel like Veronica can do better than "ew").
I hate Dick Casablancas. I feel like this is a situation where the creator and cast's affection for the actor has led to this character being around long past his use-by date. Ryan Hansen is clearly a lovely person, but it will always bug me that Dick never got called on, you know, DRUGGING AND PLANNING TO RAPE HIS GIRLFRIEND. That's a dealbreaker, ladies. I was rewatching S2 last week and I still hate that when Gia asks Veronica about Dick, Veronica doesn't mention that he intended to roofie Madison because she wasn`t putting out. (When
mcfeste asked about that at the Marsathon, it really seemed like it had never occured to any of them, and Rob really didn't want to address it. At least Kristen was clearly bugged by it once she thought about it.) And I know they sort of tried to redeem Dick in S3, but frankly Ryan doesn't have the chops to pull it off, so Dick has always been a character I just have no use for, aside from the odd chuckle.
That Canadian karaoke thing was weird, right? Not that I don't appreciate the shoutout, but...
Uh, were we supposed to know the radio guy Piz works with? I assume so, and there were a few "Himself" credits at the end, so some of the cameos flew right over my head. Except Franco, obviously. :D
Stuff I loved (aka pretty much everything else!):
It makes me ridiculously happy that Logan joined the navy and grew up. When he showed up in uniform, I was like...
I mean, not only did he look amazing, but LOGAN IS ALL GROWED UP! He's responsible! I was overcome with both lust and emotion, LOL. And also, I was so happy Veronica made an Officer and a Gentleman ref, since that popped into my head immediately!
Also loved Logan saving Keith, and the whole sequence of carrying Veronica inside and tucking her in, and then sexing her up. I LOVE MY SHIP SO MUCH, YOU GUYS. It makes me so happy that we got this. So. Happy. I'm okay with the 180 days at the end, since clearly they are destined.
I loved seeing Wallace and Mac! And Weevil! (Sad face that he's back on the bike at the end. Don't let Celeste win, Weevil!) And Corny! Awww. And how great is Chris Lowell? So funny and sweet. He got me all verklempt when his voice broke on the phone. Poor Piz. Piz, if Logan didn't exist, you would be the guy. But sorry!
Jerry O'Connell was great as Lamb the Second. Delightfully douchey. (And a sidenote -- UGH, Michael Muhney getting fired from Y&R for allegedly sexually harrassing his 20-year-old costar! Gross. And he got fired from VM for apparently being a dick.)
Gaby Hoffman was great as the crazy girl! Love her. Although there was too much time spent on that character.
I love that Sacks got a nice moment before buying it. RIP!
CLIFF! J'adore forever. And Vinnie. :D
KEITH! Just loved all his scenes with Veronica. He's such a great daddy. Let's hope in the end he's sheriff again.
LEO! That scene was so perfect. So delighted Leo got out of Neptune and is a cop again! Yay! And LOL at how he played Veronica. Heeeeee.
Overall I am one very satisfied fan. Of course we all knew that Veronica as a lawyer for the Fortune 500 Jake Kanes of the world was not her path, and it was really fantastic to see her end up where her heart is back in Neptune as a PI. And with Logan. I loved the addiction metaphor (I guess she's never seen her mom again, huh?) for Logan and detective work, and how intrinsically the two are linked for her. It made me so happy.
