Just finished the last episode. My feelings, they are mixed.
Extremely happy that Moriarty will be back, since I never bought for a moment that such a narcissist had a death wish. No way, no day. And Andrew Scott is the most fun.
I like that the villain in this was such a bag of dicks. But as soon as he revealed that all the info is in his head, I was like - uh, someone needs to to just shoot this guy in the head. Problem solved! And considering the blackmailing the guy was doing, I can't imagine the government wouldn't happily help cover up his murder. Especially since it was only witnessed by Mycroft and his minions.
Okay, so the Mary reveal. I was truly flabbergasted. Never saw that coming in the slightest! I thought it was brilliant - until she was all too easily forgiven.
I was kind of dreading Mary appearing on the show, but I absolutely adored her. She was so lovely. But then she turned around and shot Sherlock (and he very almost died -- I don't care if it was a well-placed shot!), and I was stunned, but I thought, Ah, this is how they're going to get John back to Baker Street where he belongs.
But then...no. Mary's forgiven and it just wasn't earned at all in my books. I'm having a really hard time swallowing it. If it was a redemption arc over the course of several episodes? Probably a lot easier to digest. But it was way too easy.
I realized near the end when John and Sherlock were saying goodbye at the airfield, that what I really want from the show is them living together at Baker Street and solving mysteries. (A radical concept!) But Moffat and co. have gone so far afield. Sherlock faking his death should've been the end of season four or something - not two. It's just all too much, too fast.
As always, there were many brilliant moments and laugh out loud moments. I'll certainly continue watching (in two years or so, heh), but I feel like they've gone so flashy and gotten away from the heart of the show. I dunno. Ep two was fantastic ("sitty thing???"), while 301 was uneven, and the train scene pissed me off big time.
I was so ready to have John move back. Sherlock put his chair back and everything! Sigh.
