This picture fills me with so much joy, my friends. You might recall that I'm not a fan of Evgeny Plushenko. He came in second to 18-year-old Maxim Kovtun at Russian Nationals this week and will apparently not be competing in Sochi in singles. IT'S A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!
Heeeeee! He says he will compete in the team event, but that's not possible since Russia only qualified one man and the same one would have to do both singles and the new team event. The Russian federation says no final decision has been made, so we'll see what happens, and I'm not counting him out because you just never can.
But there's no way Plushenko can compete with the best in the world anymore, at least not the way he skated the other day. Little Maxim deserves that Olympic ticket.
