Had a great weekend. Saw Rock of Ages, which I heartily enjoyed. I had low expectations, so was pleasantly surprised. Tom Cruise was great, especially “Wanted Dead or Alive.” Diego Boneta is like Matt Doyle’s hispanic brother, and thus very enjoyable. It was a fun movie.
Saturday night,
bliss_ and I went to Niagara-on-the-Lake to see Steven Page (ex-Barenaked Ladies) at the Jackson Triggs winery. The small outdoor ampitheatre is gorgeous, and the weather was perfect. We got the front row and the seats (all seats are folding chairs) were so comfy. It was so nice guzzling sipping wine as the sun set and Steven sang. He did half his own stuff and half Barenaked Ladies, and it was such a fabulous show. I just adore his voice. He did some of my faves, including “Jane,” “Call and Answer,” “Enid” and “The Old Apartment.”
The last song of the encore was “Brian Wilson,” which is my favourite BNL song ever. That line, “Drove downtown in the rain/9:30 on a Tuesday night/Just to check out the late-night record shop” is, like, my youth. I grew up in the same suburb of Toronto as BNL did (Scarborough), and at the same time. I had their BNL’s indie tape, which had a yellow photocopied cover and six songs, IIRC. Anyway, so lots of memories with their music and Steven’s voice. It was a beautiful, nostalgic summer night.
We went to Canada’s Wonderland yesterday and holy cats, the new rollercoaster
Leviathan was the scariest thing I’ve ever been on. I love rollercoasters, but this was too much for me! That 80 degree drop is insane. As you go over the top you really feel like you’re freefalling and are not securely strapped in, even though you are (but just with a lap thing). Since there’s no traditional coaster car and nothing over your shoulders, you feel very loosey-goosey. It was legitimately terrifying and I’m never going on it again, LOL.
I hadn’t been to Wonderland in about 15 years, so it was fun to revisit my youth. Also! They have
Tiny Tom donuts there now! SO GOOD OMG. I hadn’t had them in years. I get the original cinnamon and they’re all warm and delicious. Good times.
