I know your taste pretty well, and I think you'll LOVE Revenge. It's super addictive! The storylines are smartly written, the characters are compelling, and it's got that guilty-pleasure-crack value. Also, Kyle Valenti! <3 Although Nolan is my favorite.
It's weird to me that the media is spinning the Matt Bomer speech as a coming out moment. I don't think he was ever really in. He's always worn a ring and talked about his kids (who are actually Simon's) while keeping his relationship private, and that probably won't change. He just thanked his family at an awards show. If my mom was watching it, she'd probably think "Kit" was his wife (i.e., he doesn't say who's who). But for some reason, his saying Simon's name in public = coming out on the cover of People magazine, as far as the media's concerned.
Oh right, Kyle! I forgot about that. Okay, will give it a whirl. I'm sure I'll love it. :D
Well, with Bomer, there was still this weird thing where he definitely wasn't mentioning Simon's name. Did you see when he was on the Today Show last year co-hosted the last hour with Hoda whatshername? And she was all, I just found out during the commercial break that you have kids! And he said yes, and hi to them (which was the first time he publically talked about them, IIRC), and they talked about how much work it is, and there was this weird elephant in the room because they didn't reference a wife or partner at all. If I'd been watching it and didn't know anything, I would have been wondering who the kids' mother was and why she didn't rate a mention at all.
I think it's been a progression, and now that he's saying Simon's name publically it's the last step. I totally hear what you're saying, and agree it was not a *secret*, but he was still a bit "in" before, IMO.
You will. It's crazy soapy, but unlike Ringer, I enjoy the improbability. And Madeline Stowe is one of my most hated actresses-yet I enjoy her on this.
Yeah, I think MB was working really hard to walk that tightrope of being out in his private life but never ever acknowledging his partner. And while I sorta understand why he did it (there are still plenty of people in the movie biz saying you can not be a movie star leading man and be out to the world) in this modern world you just can not do it forever. Now I hope he still gets to have that big movie career.
