I never saw Whitney Houston in concert, but I did have her Whitney CD and The Bodyguard soundtrack (like most people who grew up in the '80s and '90s, who didn't?). I wouldn't say I was ever a fan per se, but she was everywhere in those days and I always enjoyed her music. "Didn't We Almost Have it All" and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" stand out for me.
When I think of Whitney Houston, I always remember going to see The Bodyguard. It was a packed house, and "I Will Always Love You" was at the top of the charts. At the end of the movie, when she's saying goodbye to Kevin Costner, the song comes on over the scene ("If I...should stay..."). I have a vivid memory of the audible GROAN from most of the women in the audience because we all knew we were going to start crying. And yep, it was sniffle city, because that song and her voice were just so pure and beautiful.
Addiction is a terrible, terrible thing. Such a waste.
ETA: Just corrected my earlier statement, which was "Addition is a terrible, terrible thing." Heh.
