On Tuesday my parents and I went to see the Toronto Symphony Orchestra perform “Hollywood Hits” with special guests
Jodie Benson (best known as the voice of Ariel) and
Hugh Panaro, a Broadway and West End actor who is currently playing the Phantom on Broadway. It was a great night! Both Jodie and Hugh have lovely voices and the orchestra is great as always.
They song list covered every decade of film and featured “Over the Rainbow,” “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat,” “The Way We Were,” “The Circle of Life,” John Williams’ kick-ass theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark, “Cabaret,” and others. Of course Jodie did “Part of Your World” and then Hugh did “Music of the Night.”
Holy. Hannah.
He was AMAZEBALLS. Like, if he’s still playing Phantom next time I’m in NYC I want to see him. I unapologetically love Phantom of the Opera, and he was really spectacular. The audience was on its feet as the last note faded away. His “...let your spirit start to soar” was so gorgeous. Everything was. It was the showstopper of the night, that’s for sure. They closed with “You Can’t Stop the Beat” and then did an ABBA medley for the encore. Good times.
