Some exciting news at my author website! Well, exciting to me, anyway. :)

In other news, bliss_ and I saw Crazy, Stupid Love and The Help last week. Loved them both. Ryan Gosling is so hot that I can't even textually render how hot he is. Just...guh. At first I thought the movie was good but not great, but then something happened that really made it ( Read more... )

I concur with your assessment of Crazy Stupid Love and by this - At first I thought the movie was good but not great, but then something happened that really made it come together, I hope you mean when we found out Nana was their daughter.

A - That did it for me. B - Did you feel like an absolute idiot for not figuring it out sooner?

But yes - loved it.

Yep, that was it! I never even suspected it for a moment. I thought they did it really well! When they were talking about "Nana" at the school, I remember idly wondering whose mother it was, but since they were married so many years, it made sense they'd both still talk to her.

That twist really elevated the movie!

It really did.

I had a moment at the beginning when she said they'd been married for 24 years when I thought, 'Wow. They must have gotten married when there were, like, in high school' but I totally didn't see it coming, either.

Their Nana conversation at the school became really funny after the reveal. 'I spoke to Nana. She's...Nana.' because you did think they were talking about a dotty grandmother or something.

It was great.

Yay, print book! Eeeeee!

I saw Crazy, Stupid, Love this weekend, too! So freaking good. I never suspected the twist either. It reminded me a little bit of the reveal in Playing By Heart, but more intense.

Did you see Cowboys and Aliens? :D :D :D

Yay, indeed! Thank you, bb.

I don't remember Playing by Heart, although I think I did see it back in the day. What was the reveal there?

No, I haven't seen C&A, but I want to! You liked it, I presume?

I looooooove Playing By Heart, even if it's a bit cheesy. Some beautiful stuff from Angelina Jolie and Ryan Phillippe in particular, and Sean Connery and Gena Rowlands are fun as well. And Gillian Anderson. And Jon Stewart. And Ellen Burstyn and Jay Mohr and Dennis Quaid. :D

The twist was that three of the women are sisters, and Sean and Gena are their parents, and Jay is Gillian's gay ex, and Ellen is his mom and a neighbor to the family, etc. It's all tied up rather neatly, but it's lovely anyway. I rather like the original title, Dancing About Architecture.

Yes, see C&A immediately! Hugely enjoyable. Hint: Daniel Craig is hot.

Oh yes, that movie is ringing bells now. And I do remember that the original title was SO much better! That was a great line.

What, Daniel Craig hot? I DON'T BELIEVE IT.

Congratulations!! :D

I've been waiting to see both of those movies. Hopefully, soon.

Oh My Goodness! Ryan is something. When the entertainment media talks about Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds, I'm all about Ryan Gosling! Actually, just now I had to look up Ryan Reynolds' last name. :P

Octavia and Jessica were my favorite parts of the movie!

They were SO great! Jessica actually reminds me of Bryce Dallas Howard, and afterwards Bliss had to IMDB so we could figure out who Jessica was. Obviously we knew she wasn't Bryce, but she looked so familiar! But we hadn't seen her in anything else. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of her though.

She's been in a bunch of stuff I haven't seen/have yet to see. I know she shot a film with Tom Hardy. There was a picture of the two of them at some industry thing and they looked so sweet together. When I saw her pop up in this movie, I made flappy hands. Her story broke my heart and I LOVED her relationship with Octavia's character.
