Some lovely person found our wallets after the thief dumped them, and turned them in to the police station. My pretty new wallet is now back in my possession! Huzzah! THANK YOU, GOOD SAMARITAN. MANY BLESSINGS UPON YOU.
The only thing missing was my Visa, which I knew they'd used, and all the money, which was thankfully only a $5 bill and some change. Of course I cancelled all my cards this morning, but at least I have my license and health card back (although the latter is being replaced -- I had to do my dl in person, so hadn't done it yet) and I know someone isn't out there trying to use them to impersonate me. I also had an alert placed on my file at Equifax and TransUnion, so if anyone tried to open a new credit card in my name, Visa or whomever would have to call me to confirm my indentity. It lasts for six years, and even though I'm sure this thief just went for the quick Visa purchase before I could cancel it, it's good to know it'll be harder for someone to steal my identity.
Thanks to all for the commiseration on my previous post! Very appreciated. :)
