I can't help but be strangely fascinated by the
Russell Williams case. In a nutshell: the (now former, obviously) commanding officer of the biggest air force base in Canada is a serial killer and rapist. Amazing to think that if he hadn't been randomly stopped in a police roadside check, they might never have put together the link between the tire treads of his vehicle to the treads left in the snow at a victim's house.
He's a unique killer of this kind in that he didn't start committing his crimes until he was middle-aged. At least he plead guilty (no choice, really, since he'd videotaped the crimes and taken a ton of photos). Good that the families and living victims didn't have to go through a drawn-out trial. It's just heartbreaking to imagine how they feel, and it's all so disturbing and terrible. Yet I can't stop myself from reading about it. Human nature, I guess.
