I'm so proud of Joannie. So proud! I was a sobbing mess at the end of her skate when she burst into tears. I can't imagine the confusion of emotions she must be feeling. For her to go out and do a perfect short program under this pressure and with her grief is simply remarkable. She had a beautiful performance and I hope she can do it again in the long. Don't care about medals, just about her. Tessa and Scott and the Canadian team were there to cheer her on, and all of Canada was, too. Bonne chance, Joannie!
Okay, the rest of the field. Yu-Na was fabulous and I'm so happy for her. Brian Orser really has done an incredible job coaching her and turning her into the champion she is today. She's such a megastar in Korea, but he keeps her grounded here in Toronto. She trains with other young skaters including American Adam Rippon (remember that name!) and from everything I've heard she's a totally sweet girl. Can't wait for her LP!
Seriously, Yu-Na and Brian have the cutest relationship ever. Awwwww.
It was wonderful to see Mao Asada looking so happy! I haven't seen her smile like that in so very long. Good for her. The first half of this season was so terrible, but she's clawed her way back. So great to see at the Olympics!
Miki Ando has never been my fave, and I would have ranked her below fourth. Good showing for Rachael Flatt and Mirai Nagasu! That really is a surprise. Rachael seems like an absolutely lovely person, but her skating just bores me, I'm afraid. But I love Mirai and can't wait to see her grow as a skater. Love seeing her so happy after Nationals last year when she was in tears before her LP because she was just so upset and not wanting to be there. Those growth spurts get the girls every time. But now she's regained her confidence and her pizzaz.
Now I must get to bed. So tired and all cried out.
