I'm so saddened by the terrible news about the sudden death of Joannie Rochette's mother in Vancouver. This Hymn for Therese Rochette had me in tears ( Read more... )

Life is full of cruel fates, not many more cruel than this moment for Joannie. I am pleased that she plans to skate, as I'm sure her Mother would want that, yet, if she finds she can't, I'm with her on her decision.

I can't find the superlatives for Tessa and Scott. They had a sublime moment despite the pressures. They are living their dream! And they made me cry.

Meryl and Charlie are so lovely, too. I embrace both teams and thank the stars that they are coached by Zueva, who guided the young and talented beyond words Gordeeva and Grinkov to supremacy!

I agree with you about Tanith and Ben. They seem to have flatlined since the 2006 Olympics. I'm sure they felt there was no room for them in the Zueva and Spilband camp, but they certainly didn't leave for a better camp, IMO.

You picked the best picture of the Russians!! Hair pulling?? Ridiculous costumes?? Uninspiring skating? Thank heavens they are not held up in the markings, or at least not held into first place.

On the matter of the disappointments - I am disappointed for the athletes who, themselves, felt they were medal contenders. They put so much hard work and time into the preparations leading to these games. I wish somehow the coverage wouldn't blow up each athlete's chances at medaling and just let the events happen. In any grand events, such as the Olympics, there are sweet triumps and crushing losses. That is the nature of sport. I am enjoying these games, and am already wondering what to do when they have extinguished the flame. :)

Yes, I'm totally behind Joannie whatever happens.

Marina Zoueva and Igor Shpilband are the best in the biz as far as I'm concerned! G/G were so wonderful.

Yeah, I can understand why they felt they needed a change and more singular attention, but I don't think they've really improved since they left.
