Okay, so for starters, Mike Wazowski was not meant to be in the human world. He was just a kid himself. Not THAT kind of kid - a human kid - but a monster kid. A normal, healthy, green, one-eyed monster kid. He wasn't meant to be here. Only fully trained scarers were sent through to the human world. That's why this whole plan to track down his best pal, Sulley, and spend all of his precious car money purchasing the right door through nefarious means was completely INSANE.
Still, Sulley had been gone a long time and no matter how scared Mike was (as could be seen by the wide eye and the fearful look and the pot holders on his hands to make sure he didn't touch anything and get contaminated), Sulley would have done the same for him.
Not that Mike would get himself into this mess anyway, but - "Oh, get on with it already, will you?" Mike muttered to himself and pushed the closet door a little further open. Thankfully for him, the room's occupant wasn't home. "Sulley?" he called quietly, wondering if it was too late to turn back. He took a deep breath and stepped out into the room. "Anybody home? Please say no." Realizing that he was alone, Mike nearly let the door close behind him, but with a feat of contortion, he turned and kept it open long enough to stretch awkwardly for a toy truck with his covered hands to wedge in the door to keep it open.
"This'll be easy. All I've gotta do is take a look around, find a big blue furry guy and get us outta here. How hard can it be?" Mike talked himself into staying as he walked across the room and looked out the window.
He saw the church and the next block over and the school campus up above them on the hill. His expression dropped at first, but then he sucked in a deep breath, left the room cautiously and scurried down the stairs and out the front door in a blur of green.
He had to find Sulley.
