-In the dead of night, those living on the western end of town can hear a great comotion in the forest and a deep grumbling. Looking out in that direction, cast in moonlight, anyone can clearly see that a particularly tall tree has suddenly sprouted up in the middle of the forest. What on earth could have caused this?-

Bother... -comes the ( Read more... )

-After some awkward repositioning of himself and desperate attempts not to fall out of his leafy abode.-

... It would appear I'm in the western woods. If you simply look in the direction, you'll probably be able to tell where I am.

I can't see that well at night, you know. Not that well in the light either, recently.

[But he's still off to go find you, Sasarai.]

How troublesome, ha ha... should I put on a light for you?

I think I can manage.

[And some minutes later Nash has found Sasarai's tree. He sort of ran there, if you must know, but it's a bit difficult in the snow. And this tree is exasperatingly tall!]

Your Grace? Forget what I said about my eyesight earlier. Maybe you should just try jumping, and I'll catch you.

... You MUST be joking! What if you miss me?

Of course I'm joking. Just hang on a sec, I'm not a monkey, nor am I young.

[But he can still climb the tree. And will be doing so. Maybe grumbling about it a bit.]

You've still many more advantages over me.

[And, still climbing those branches.] That says more about you than it does me.

[Nash can't get up to the exact branch poor Sasarai is stuck on without knocking him off it or placing his hands in very uncomfortable places, but he can get to a place in the tree vaguely level with Sasarai. He's trying to do something fancy with wires, so they can rappel down, but it is dark and this would be easier with both hands free, and not one clutching a match.] Were you serious about that offer of a light?

I was wondering when you'd ask.

-With a slight whisper and a gesture of his hand, a bit of aid from Hyt, the Spirit of Light.-

I have to tell you, this one is a might difficult. You may want to make it quick.

I can be efficient on rare occasions. [And he really just needs to make sure his knots are tied well, and that everything will hold, which doesn't take long.]

Right. I'm going to need for you to hang on to me for this to work.

I hardly see myself in position to complain about the matter. I trust you.

While it's nice to hear my years of devoted service haven't been for naught, that wasn't what I meant. Scoot over a bit so I can get onto your branch.

-With a bit of a chuckle, he does so.-

I doubt you ever imagined we'd be in a situation like this.

You have no idea what my imagination gets up to. [He wobbles a bit, coming over to Sasarai's branch, but rights himself.] This is far from the worst you've thrown at me, anyway.

[He tugs at his wire once more just to make absolutely sure it will hold them.] Alright. Shall we?
