Can I write a sequel to an earlier work if I make sure no knowledge of the previous work is necessary by including a brief flashback?

One more question - will you be sending email notifications re deadlines, etc.? I rarely have the time to check in on fannish spaces that don't send automatic notifications of posts (like LJ does.)
