Tina Turnbow is a professional makeup artist, who is known for lending her celebrity clients editorial polish.

Life is looking pretty sweet for the actress Kaley Cuoco. She’s in her fourth season playing Penny on “The Big Bang Theory,” which has just been picked up for three more years, and her first feature film, “Hop,” a dark take on Easter that co-stars Russell Brand, will be out in April. Cuoco’s hot date for Valentine’s Day is her handsome musician boyfriend, Christopher French, the singer and guitarist for Annie Automatic. She plans on sporting some big bang hot lips. I did her makeup for these photos.

T: Do you and your boyfriend have anything special planned for V-Day?

K: I’m not sure. He is going to surprise me. I have given up my controlling ways, so he can take charge … for a day.

T: Well, I’m sure you’ll be in control of cosmetic choices for that evening. Any ideas on what you will choose?

K: Yes - bright pink lipstick. I’m not into red so much. I don’t like it because it calls attention to my teeth. Also, I think it can be aging. Pink is more youthful. It’s a modern take on red. My hair will be simple, my wardrobe colors neutral. I like to play up one feature, leave the rest simple. Make that one thing as great as it can be.

T: What was his reaction the first time he saw you with the pink lip?

K: He was into it, because it was a change. He had never seen me look that way. Guys like when you mix it up. He knew something was different, but he couldn’t quite figure out what it was. One tip: keep lips matte, they stay put longer. Gloss gets messy, especially when smooching.

T: How does the color make you feel?

K: Fun, adventurous, sexy and girlie! I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. It’s refreshing to try new looks, break out of your usual makeup routine.

T: You are usually pretty tan. Right now, your skin tone is fair. Do you think that’s part of the reason the pink is working so well?

K: Definitely. In the winter I like the look of creamy, porcelain skin, with a crisp pop of color. Other times, I’m Miss Self Tanner/Bronzer girl. That’s when I usually go with smoky eyes and nude lips.

T: Skin tone does dictate what will work makeup-wise. To make it smooth and radiant, you must take good care of it. What are you skin care necessities?

K: First off, my Liz Earle Superskin Moisturizer is essential. It’s rich, but perfect under makeup. I’m crazy about Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. I slather it all over my face when flying. I Iook greasy and weird, but I don’t care, because my face is soft and protected. I also use their lip balm - I’m addicted. For eye cream, I switch between Dermalogica Intensive Eye Repair and Kiehl’s Avocado eye cream. They are the only ones that don’t irritate my eyes. For a morning eye de-puffer, I put Clinique’s All About Eyes Serum in the fridge, so the roller ball is nice and cold - it feels incredible! Then it’s masks, masks and masks. Jurlique’s Intense Recovery Mask is my favorite. It does magical things to my skin. The directions say use once a week, but I use it about five times!

T: You can’t go by the rules or directions all the time. Go by what your skin tells you. Any other beauty advice?

K: Yeah: don’t follow rules, follow your instincts.
