Borderlands

So i've been playing borderlands a lot. It is a really fun game, especially when you play with other people, however there are some things they need to work on to be an awesome game instead of an alright game.

More quest types. There's like 123 quests in the game, and they are either "kill this dude/kill this many dudes" or "pick these up/harvest these crystals". So basically they have 2 quests you repeat 123 times.

Your character gets a lot of backpace space, plus frequent upgrades, however you don't have any sort of "safe" or storage. So if you find an item for somebody else, you have to hold it on your person the entire time and hope you don't accidentally sell it.

Getting the vehicle early on is nice. Driving and vehicle combat isn't. It's halo style camera driving, which wouldn't be a problem if you could control your turret separately than the car. What's the point of even having a turret if it only aims in the direction you're going? Also it would have been nice to have gotten some sort of mini map while in the car just for navigation purposes. Instead of having to stop every 100 feet and check the map because the geography is so all over the place.

More character customization would have been nice. Especially since it's diablo style loot (meaning randomized. 4 things can drop which are the same, but all 4 can have different stats.) I wish there was also armor in the game instead of just shields. It seems like an easy cop out to be like, ERR EVERYONE HAS SHIELDS SO WE DON'T NEED TO MAKE THE CHARACTERS LOOK ANY DIFFERENT.

Other than that the game is sweet. The graphics are beautiful. I've loved cell shading since crazy taxi, jet grind radio, Legend of Zelda: Wind waker. I think cell shading is vastly under appreciated. In the age of games now, how much "realism" is in games, it's nice to get back to something just cartoony and fun.

Character/npc interaction is infrequent but hilarious. There was one bit where a guy named Scooter sent me on a rescue mission and said
"Hey yeah, i need you to go and rescue my friend james. And by friend, i mean asshole. He's an asshole for ruining my mama's girl bits if you know what i mean. So i want you go to save him before the bandits kill him so i can kill him myself."

With interesting dialog like that peppered here in and there, I wonder why it's so infrequent.

This game is a solid 8, and i recommend picking it up especially if you plan on playing online or at LAN's. It's a great LAN game that you could conceivably stay up playing all night into the next day. But if they would have spent more time on just general improvements, this game could have been an easy perfect 10, as i haven't had this much fun playing a game in a long while.

Edit: Also i feel i should mention that if you make a character in single player mode, you can use that same character in online and LAN games. I think that's one of the best moves borderlands could have made in regards to just keeping the same character for everything.
