Now, A lot of people will say that, "the good guy is always rewarded", or "he who helps others, helps himself"... What the hell happened to sayings like that coming true? Why did that change?
Today, upon driving home to Tremont (near peoria), The famed "big pappa pat" was heading home to his parents after leaving a day of afternoon work at the police station. (3-11 ish) Pat has been like a member of my family on my dads side since he came up to the Markam (sp?) area and trained under the wing of my uncle mike. He was like an uncle almost... well, more like a cousin. He was an amazingly great guy and was funny and just... just great in general. After a few years on the force with my uncle, he transferred to burbank and worked with my father. Most of my family, including me, was at least semi-close to this great man. i mean like i said, he was almost family. He worked with my dad, my mom really liked him, he dated my sister(breifly) and yeah, was just amazingly cool to be around. But yes, my family got a call i beleive around 3-3:30 this morning... and was told terrible news. Pat was going home for thanksgiving with his parents and was in the "Tawanda area" and saw a car that skidded of the clear, but icy, roads... and being the "good guy" he stopped tio try to help them. As he got out of his truck, he was hit by a car and killed. Somebody called it in and it was a hit and run... State patrolmen? or state troopers had actually stopped these men on the side of the road as they were trying to take off their plates to avoid being caught. What the hell is the matter with people?!?!?!?!?! My father and uncle mike headed down there to be with Pat's parents and whatnot, and to make sure these inconsiderate jerks who hit him... are prosecuted to "the fullest extent of the law"
It's always the guy that tries to be the nice guy that gets hurt... but in this case it went a little further than hurt, Pat, we'll all miss you, R.I.P. 11-25-04
