"Trapped in a world he never made"

Apr 10, 2006 07:41

That's the tagline from a comic book I collected in my youth.
Sometimes I feel like that. Well, not exactly trapped and not exactly that I haven't made something/anything (of myself). I guess I just feel a little out of place almost everywhere I go. At the same time though there's just enough of me that feels I should be where I go to keep me there and get me there though sometimes once there I feel a little lost.

That's how I felt at the beginning of APE as I was sitting there after setting up.

Luckily though those thoughts quickly dissolved as a gentleman (in his 60's) came up and wanted to buy $20.00 worth of something that was representative of my work. He was very interested in caricature and it felt good to talk about. On Sunday too a young mother came up and was interested in caricature and was seeking advice on how to improve. She does airbrush and wanted to expand to airbrushed caricatures, but didn't feel it was her strong suit. I think I gave her a quite good advice and somethings to think about on how to improve.

Overall the weekend was awesome!

I saw a few people I haven't seen in over a year. It was nice to reconnect with new friends (those I've met in the last 3 or so years).

I was at the end of a section of tables so in a way I was hidden. There were a few people that almost snuck by without seeing me, but I called out their names before they were out of reach.

Vince Ramstar Stephens was one. He's mainly known for drawing these incredibly detailed thick and lovely ethnic honies. I almost thought of contacting him to share my table, but his drawings although I love them are a little saucier than most of my work so I passed on that. He's fun though. I introduced him to a few people that I think opened his eyes a little and set them a twinkle.

Clothing designer (Madame S), Akemi was another that almost slipped by on Sunday it was nice to see her again. It was at kumimonster's 2004 birthday I last saw her.
This is a drawing from that night.

Next to me were these young cartoonists from Bombunist Press. Turns out they lurk and sometimes post at The Drawing Board. They said I helped one of their friends (who's a big fan of my work) with some caricature advice last year. He wasn't there, but they relayed the info.

My friend (and fellow caricaturist) James Courtney came by for a little while on Saturday. He does some nice pinup work in adobe illustrator and is usually set-up at these type events. His site is Naked Comix (see link in the next little blurb).

My friend Roz came by on Sunday. She's a caricaturist ... a belly dancer, go-go dancer and all around entertainer. She's modeled for me lots of times. She was the model for my "Lovebird de Mardi Gras" that was an artshow poster last year. Lookin' at James' site I see he uses her a lot also. check her out in this "Hot for Teacher" image on NakedComix.

Scott and Polly of Kinky Salon were there. They're so nice. It was good to see them again. They throw parties at Mission Control. Their next event is SPRING FLING! - a night in the Enchanted Forest. I thought it would be the perfect place for my "Flightless Butterfly" so she'll be hanging there for awhile. So if you go by Mission Control check her out at the Tiki Bar.

If you've never been to Mission Control let's just say that it is a delightfully decked out pad that's ready to play. I took Ramstar with me and that's what opened his eyes a bit. I think he'll like it there and Scott and Polly are always looking for more artist involvement so it was a good connection.

I really should cut this a little, but hmmm ... let's see ... anything else interesting ... ummm ... oh yeah!!!

dangerrrdoll came by and was delightful!
She's in her first artshow tonight! Check out the Who, What, Where, Why and When here!

... more about Dangerrr's visit with pictures in a bit.

Back to the title ... the place I usually am at on Sunday mornings is singing in the "Praise and Worship" team at church. I love it, but there too I feel a little out of place.
