(no subject)
So we're in Palermo at the moment....the capital of Sicily and while the city is ok....the weather is shit! Its been raining the last few days and we were told that Sicily always shines....what a lie! hahaha.
We have met some couchsurfers from Palermo though and went out with them on Saturday night when we arrived to see their friend play at a bar which was really nice. Yesterday 2 of the guys that we had met from the night before, Toti and Valentino (they're cousins) picked us up and drove us to Monreale which is a nice town in the mountains. You can see Palermo from the top which was cool and theres a church there that is made of gold all in the inside but it was closed so we couldnt see it.
We also tried a Sicilian specialty - Broiche con Gelato (Gelato in a bun). Yes....thats right.....ice cream in a bun! Its like a sweet bun that you get at the bakery and you eat it like a burger. It was surprisingly nice but weird. A novelty....but a popular dessert for the Sicilians! We also had the BEST canolli in Castelbueno the other day (which in Italian means Good Castle but we've renamed it CastleQuassiQuassi which means Castle-So-So because it wasnt all that!) So the Sicilians definitely have the best dessert in Italy!
Tomorrow we're heading to a small town where we are going to stay with a couchsurfer on his farm. Should be some fun! :)
