ITS EXACTLY 1 WEEK TIL I GET BACK TO LONDON......AND 1 MONTH TIL I GET BACK TO AUSTRALIA!!!!
Weird!!!!
Ok, so here's the next update thats long overdue which is BAR-THE-LO-NA!
But before I do that, I just want to say that I am going absolutely crazy here wanting to buy sooo many clothes here in Spain. I love the Spanish styles! There seems to be 2 main styles at the moment: One is a hippy sort of look which Im really starting to like and the other is a Ska style, which as the Tintern Girls will remember, I have always been into Ska and loved the style....and its actually cool here :P (I wish the Tintern Girls were here to see it! hahaha) ...... but more on the style (and hair aaaaaaahahahahahaha) later!!!
So, Barcelona
I was picked up from the port by Yrene, my couchsurfing host and we caught the Metro back to her house. I met her housemates and then Yrene, me, Che (her housemate) and another friend of hers (who's name Ive already forgotten sorry) went to a heavy hardcore live gig. The music was soooo loud that my ears were ringing for the next 2 days (and now Im going to carry ear plugs around in my wallet cos Im going to kill my ear drums soon otherwise!). The gig was put on by the council and while everyone there was heavily into the hardcore scene, they were all "straight edged" and didnt drink, smoke or do drugs. it was really good to see that all these kids could go out and party and the only thing that they needed was the music to have a good time. We were one of the only few groups of people in there that were having a beer. Everyone else was dancing like crazy and acting like they were on alcohol or drugs but were completely sober! There were quite a few people wearing t-shirts that said in Spanish something like "No I dont want any of your stupid drugs". It was very interesting to be there.
After the gig we had a COMPLETE change of scene! We (literally) hiked up a mountain to the top where there was a techno rave party. It was really cool cos you could see the whole of Barcelona lit up at night and we ended up staying there til 10.30am so I got to see the sun rise over the city too which was cool. There were 2 dj sections there. One was playing Hip Hop/Reggae and then Drum and Bass and the other was playing techno. The music was alright and I had a really good time talking to a few people....and trying to talk to other people who didnt speak english hahaha.
But for most of the night, I ended up just observing people! It was a very fasinating place to be and if I had a tape recorder inside my head to record my thoughts I would have been able to play back to you an entire examination report of everything that was going on! hahaha. I'll give you a rough summary of the place:
Most of the people there were on drugs. I just stuck to my 2 beers for the night but was constantly being offered MDMA, Hash, Coke and god knows what else. The thing was....these people were all mixing their drugs, and they werent lightly using them either! This was why they were all able to party until 10.30am without any problems though....while I was about to crawl up into a ball somewhere for a nap. When we got home to the CSers house, they were still doing drugs throughout the day to keep them up....while I slept all afternoon hahaha.
It was interesting to also see the clothes they wore....it seemed that the unwritten rule at this place was to be 'in fashion' you had to have no commercial fashion sense.....it was Anything Goes! And the hair....well....Spain has their own hairstyles! The Spanish hairstyles I think are pretty cool....but very weird. I'll try to describe them. They usually always incorporate shaving at least 1 section of your hair but the MULLET is the thing thats in the most fashion at the moment! Thats right.....its THE MULLET!!!! I even saw that night a guy who had a mohawk that turned into a mullet....made of DREADS.....and it was bright green so it actually all looked really funky! But yes, the hair at the moment is mullet, mullet, mullet....with a few rats tails thrown in for good measure and a few oddly shaved parts too. ONLY can you see these hair styles in Spain! I havent managed to get any photos of them unfortunately but you'll just have to use your imagination!
Ive just done a search of a few hairstyles for you and havent really found any but this is a really tame version of the type of hair they have growing into the Mullet.....as I said though, this is VERY tame for Spain!

Yes.....the Pony tail is also a very popular look with the Males at the moment making them look like a new breed of horse....its beautiful! hahaha!
Anyway, there is so much more I could go on about with that night and the people and the whole experience but im not going to bore you anymore.
The next day I just slept the entire day and didnt leave the house except once to get food.
The day after that Yrene and I walked around the city for a while. We went to the Segrada Familia which is alright....a but ugly I think....and then had lunch and slept in a park for a while before heading back home.
On the last day I had time to myself so I went to Park Gwell which is the big Goudi Park and spent the day walking around there. It was an alright park but Im not a huge fan of Goudi. It was nice to walk around though. Then i went to the hmmm....not sure what it was....I only saw it from the outside from a distance....but i think it was the Palace or something like that. But it was cool anyway!
That night I caught a night train to Madrid. Everyone in my cabin was Spanish and didnt speak english. It was damn hard to sleep on that thing though!!!
