Name - Hellboy (Real name: Anung un Rama)
Fandom - Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Canon Point - End of the second movie.
Age - Just had his 63th birthday. Film starts on September 23rd, 2008, so it’s just a bit before his earth calendar birthday. So he’s not quite 64 but nearing it. He looks, however, about 28 to 32 in human years. Brought to earth on October 9th 1944
Gender - Male
Appearance - Hellboy looks almost human, at least in form. He’s tall, 6 foot 9, with a strong build of someone who works out. His skin is red and his hair is black, his eyes a lovely yellow in color. On his head he holds two great horns, though he keeps those shaved down with a sander. He’s athletic and strong and LOOKs it. He has ten fingers and yes, ten toes (as I’m taking him form the movies). Behind him is a long rubbery looking tail with a rounded end that flicks side to side. The major outstanding oddity (other than red skin, yellow eyes and shaved horns, you ask?) is the large stone hand on his right side. Thick, rounded, and riddled with runes, it’s a key to a gate to hell… not that he wants to use it for anything but smashing.
He wears a long trench coat with inner pockets and hidden places for relics and weapons. A black form fitting shirt, combat pants and utility belt. Big old black boots! He dresses comfortable for field or not. Shirtless is also not unheard of because, well, damn, he doesn’t mind how his body looks. Ask him. You’ll never find anyone that looks as good as this.
Personality -
In general Hellboy is a over grown child crossed with a gruff anti superhero. He’s a good guy who just wants to be loved and respected but hates authority and those with bigger egos then himself. And he does have an ego.
His likes and dislikes I can pull from the DVD Biography for a quick list of things. I find this list adorable for many reasons, one it has a lot to do with Liz. Two, the dislikes list isn’t nearly as long as the likes list, which I find cute. His list shows a lot of things that are simple but also older era, which makes sense as he’s so old, really. It shows a lot of his personality as well. The childish things like the cartoons as well as the grown up habits such as smoking cigars. His bad habits such as Twinkies and his good habits such as… well, he has good habits somewhere.
Likes: The look of Liz in the golden light of dusk. The look of Liz in the morning. The look of Liz from a distance. The look of Liz nearby. Her voice, her smell, her clothes, her skin... having her fall asleep on his shoulder, well, you get the idea. He looks up to Professor Broom but feels like James Dean in East of Eden. He adores beer, pizza, chili, nachos, pumping iron, a good cigar, a bad cigar, traveling, cats, candy (especially Baby Ruth), old Upa cartoons, old Fleischer cartoons, Polaroid Photos (Liz taught him that), Zippos (he collects them), Ding-dongs and Twinkies, cookies and milk, greasy burgers and hot dogs, shaving his horns. He is easily amused by flatulence (thinks Dumb and Dumber is a masterpiece) and loves to bawl with b&w movies (especially City Lights and Brief Encounter). Beating the crap out of monsters. Getting his coat fixed and ready. His big, bad gun “The Samaritan,” and its bullets. Bruce Willis, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, The Pixar Movies (thinks that monsters, inc is a better name for the B.P.R.D. - Abe takes offence.) And watching Toy Story 1 and 2 with Liz makes for a perfect afternoon.
Loves the 3 stooges, the Marx brothers, Harold Lloyd, and Buster Keaton.
Dislikes: Vegetables (beets especially), oysters, jalapeno peppers, salads, Yanni, Charlotte church, People Magazine, The Enquirer, photographers, Abe Burping (those damn eggs are nasty) or getting sanctimonious. Thinking of his origin, learning about it. People staring at his forehead. Being locked up for more then 4 months without an “outing,” … being called a demon.
Anyhow, he likes a lot of light hearted things, especially human things. He knows he’ll never BE human but it’s still something close to his heart. He wants to be human or at least liked by humans. Thankfully the professor has installed enough humanity in him for a dozen humans.
I would say some fears would be simple things. They don’t really show it much in the movies but he dislikes being alone in the world (and yet in the comics, as much as he hates being alone, he is alone most of the time anyhow!). For this Hellboy however, he fears losing Liz the most. He fears her walking away forever and that being that. He doesn’t care what anyone else thinks about him anymore. He doesn’t need to be recognized or known or love, as long as Liz stays with him and loves him. That’s all that matters to him. He doesn’t really fear death or snakes or anything trivial like that. He knows these things happen, he just doesn’t want to lose people.
Some tics and oddities for Hellboy are so simple. He loves cats and everything about them is perfect. He smokes when he feels a job is well done (a victory smoke) or even when he just feels the need to chew on the end of a cigar. He taps his feet when he’s bored and rolls his eyes bluntly if he doesn’t care what someone is saying. He acts like a teenager half the time, mocking people as they talk by silently making blah blah faces or hands behind their backs. For a 63 year old he’s pretty much 12.
His temper and anger can be a bit short, though he’s also pretty calm about things. Attacked by monsters that just ripped his awesome coat? SIGH. Great, there goes another one. Why would you do that? It’s that kind of feel to his ‘temper’ though his temper can be knocked off its calm and set to something more rageful. It’s rare but it happens. Even when fighting the Prince he can act a bit like a childish jack ass, posing on a cog as it rolls him back up onto the platform and into the fight.
On friends and family, he is the most loyal to those he loves. The Professor was his father, Abe his best friend and Liz his love. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for them. They have earned his respect and loyalties and will forever keep them, no matter how badly one of them might hurt him. They can do no wrong. Others however, even if they are friends or close can still lose that respect and loyalties. It’s a really hard thing to get so extremely close to HB and be able to hold those kind of ties. He doesn’t let just everyone in after all. Which isn’t to say he’s not FRIENDLY, as he is. Very friendly. He can sit on a roof and chat with a 10 year old boy just fine. It’s just to say that there are a very rare few people who can get so close that THEY can hurt HIM if the ever wanted, and he would still forgive them.
HB is a fighter through and through. He will fight for the good of mankind, no matter how poorly they have treated him. Though he does have his limits and will back off into the shadows if he must. He doesn’t like being turned on, but he doesn’t want the humans to be harmed either. He doesn’t fight for no reason either!
In short, Hellboy is a hero to many and yet so few know it. He used to mind, a lot, but now as long as Liz loves him he can handle not being known as the Hero to the world. As long as the world is a safe place for him and his soon to be family. He’s a good ‘man’ and a great fighter (even if his aim is pretty well shit). He has a big heart, a great laugh and is willing to be friendly to anyone as long as they aren’t causing a problem.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellboy#In_other_media Hellboy is a demon that was pulled from hell by Rasputin and raised by a professor in army bases and secrets places. He’s part of the BPRD (the Bureau for Paranormal Reserve and Defense) a group of people who protect the world form ‘things that go bump in the night’ kind of situations.
From the point I am taking him from he has watched his ‘father’ die, bested Rasputin, learned that his hand is a key to the gate to hell (basically) and saved the love of his life’s soul from going over to the other side. He’s lived the years in secret from the public eye, but he lets images slip, posing for pictures even, much to Mannings displeasure. All he wants is the world to know who it is that is keeping it safe! A little recognition can’t hurt, right?
I am taking Hellboy from the end of the second movie, where he has already fought and defeated the Prince, watching as he and his twin sister disappear into stone and hone y colored dust. He, Liz, Abe and Johann leave the hidden location of the Golden Army (an army that could only be controlled by royal bloodline) to run into Manning (who’s been looking for them) only to hand over their holsters and badges, quitting the BPRD.
Through all of this Hellboy has suffered a fatal wound, been through a few one on one fights with the very skilled prince, fallen to the feet of an oracle who made Liz make a choice (him or the world) and… well, saved the world yet again. This time he doesn’t return to the BPRD though. He walks off with Liz, who says they are expecting twins and makes him drop his jaw. His whole new life goal is to find some place nice to settle down, have a yard for the kids to play in and live a real life.
This is where we leave off with him. My personal head canon is that they have found a small secluded place to start their family. It’s not been long since they left but they have a little place of their own. I am saying that from just after this point, one night alone with Liz somewhere, he notices something run by, grabbing his attention. He follows it, only to end up in the Carnival of Rust.
Skills/Abilities/Powers - First of all, if one can’t tell by looking at him, Hellboy is a demon. He has supernatural abilities that most definitely spawn from his demonic nature, though none of his abilities have ever been listed or categorized in any of his canons. Simply put, he is stronger and more physically durable than any one human. He has fantastic eyesight, able to see further than most people and his hearing is considered top notch. These are general ‘demonic’ abilities.
Also because of his demonic nature he appears to be immune to fire (though this is one difference between comics and movies) and able to handle large amounts of heat. He has been seen reaching out to Liz to help stop her in one of her fiery outbreaks and coming away with only a singed jacket. He’s withstood a blast of bombs form within the belly of a giant creature. A little fire isn’t going to stop him. Though he seems to be fire proof he’s still vulnerable to other things like lava, metals, creatures breaking his skin, acids and other such dangers.
He heals much faster than the average human does. Though his regeneration process isn’t as fast as some super humans it is fast. A simple wound can be healed within hours. A deep gash or stab could be gone in a day or so. Bullet holes heal in days. Though he can heal fast, he is still vulnerable to the aftermath of receiving these types of wounds. He can bleed to death, he can get infected, he can get sick and ultimately die if not treated, but it has to be a really bad life threatening wound and those come so rarely, even for someone who fights a lot as it is.
As I said before, he is ridiculously durable. He can withstand being thrown, beaten, battered, busted and bombarded with bomb blasts where any normal human would have died instantly from the same treatment. He has been seen being tossed around by creatures, thrown into walls and streets leaving impact marks, craters and holes in stone walls and still manages to stand up, dust off, crack his neck and then dash off back into the fight. He’s sturdy! Though he has this amazing stamina and durability he will still feel the sore aftereffects for such abuse. His strength is amazing but unclear in canon. He has charged and taken hits from bullets before destroying the gun with his stone hand. He has been seen ripping a tree out of its rooting and cucking it at an opponent before. He has also throw opponents weighting four or five hundred pounds heavier then himself.
Hellboy’s right hand is made of stone and is a tool of the demons to Hell. This hand is larger than his other hand and much heavier. The red stone hand seems natural on him, but it packs quite a punch. Used almost like a sledge hammer at times when fighting he can pummel the bad guys with ease.
He also seems to age differently than humans. When he was first summoned to earth back in 1944 he was considered a baby. At the age of two however he appeared to be a ten year old with a ten year olds intelligence and behaviors. At the age of ten he appeared to be a full grown man, having stopped aging in appearance. In 60 years he still looks like a buff lower middle aged man and has for some time now. There is the possibility that he is now ageless.
With all of these natural abilities, HB also carries around a lot of weapons and relics inside a very large trench coat jacket. Within, held in pockets and hooks inside, hide any number of spiritual relics, trinkets, talisman, doohickeys and chains. Trained to respect all forms of religion and belief he carries around lots of very old ‘gifts’ for protection, bringing back the dead, talking to the dead, locating spirits and the supernatural and other mystical items. All generally small and easy to tuck away on his large form or in his utility belt.
On his utility belt he keeps all manner of grenades, explosives, wire, small tools, and other field ready items. Hidden in his jacket is a 1941 US Army .45 handgun given to him by the ghost of Harry Middleton, this is a hidden back up pistol. His baby is The Good Samaritan, a very large pistol which uses ‘very large bullets’ that he makes himself. Though he loves this pistol deeply, it has a bad habit of jamming up at horrible times or just runs out of ammo (considering he has to make it himself).
Power Restrictions - He’s got a lot more Skill than anything else. Demon and all, sure, he’s bound to have some form of powers but I’m going to restrict a lot of it for the fun of it. Make him a bit more human in level. He won’t be able to jump over the fence nor smash it (but he might try) as his inhuman strength will just be that of a rather very strong human. Meaning he’ll still be strong but not Hellboy demon strong.
I’d also like to restrict his fire resistance a bit, for the fun of it. He’s still not bothered by it as much as a human and his stone hand can stay in a fire just fine, but like within the comics I want his fire resistance to be less than it is in the movies. In the movies he can stand in a fire and be fine but in comics he can withstand a fire but it still leaves small burns. He heals fast though, so it shouldn’t be too bad, but it will bother him.
All the Gate to Hell stuff would go missing, I would think, not that he would ever really use it and there would need to be other elements, of course, but that part is a little pointless. In short, I am restricting most of his demony powers and his resistances to things, making him a bit more human. Still strong and a demon, but a bit less so. Also, if by chance he has to have some human form? Ron Perlman is his PB anywhere it goes.
Job - He won’t want any job at all, stupid place, but seeing as he has to take one, he’ll do odd jobs, maintenance and things that need someone strong. Or, you know, Freak Show, being the ever frightening DEVIL BOY! Which would make a lot of sense really, but to keep himself busy, he’ll assist in maintenance. So yes…. Devil boy, in the Freak Show.
Mark Location - On his shoulder above the stone hand. Almost like a tattoo just appeared on his red skin out of nowhere.
Samples
First Person Sample (Communicator, Bulletin, or Mirror ) -
[Have a mirror image of a big red faced demon like guy with shaved off horns. Yeah, it’s Hellboy again, looking into the mirror and fixing his hair, not that he has hair where his hand is trying to fix it, but he’s making a show of looking in the mirror. He gives a smile at it.]
Hey good lookin’ [there is a smirk as he fixes himself with a better look into the mirror, becoming a bit more serious] Alright, alright.
Just wanted to say thanks for the warnings and all, and look, I’m still alive, but no, I didn’t make it over that gate. Damn thing seems enchanted or somethin’.
So, ya all serious about this being it? No escape over that gate or nothin’? Doesn’t seem right, that. There’s just one thing I haven’t tried yet. [he lifts his big red stone hand up and flexes it.] This baby here should be able to smash through it, no problem. So, anyone want to give me a good reason why I shouldn’t try it? I’m all ears.
Third Person Sample (Log) -
He had been out on the porch, smoking his cigar and relaxing. Nothing had gone wrong here for some time. It wasn’t that long ago that they had left the BPRD and he had a chance to settle down and have something or a normal life. Normal was hard to come by when you were a bit red demon thing, however. They were trying though.
Tail swishing silently, he stared out into the grassy field in front of the little place they were holed up in. Liz was sleeping and night had nearly fallen. He had taken to sitting outside around dusk and just enjoying the evening. Seriously, would this ever get boring? He was sure it might, but then the twins would come and change everything.
Oh yeah, he was ready to be a family man. ‘I become father.’
That was when he saw something. Something dart by, not human but not normal animal either. Or was it? He couldn’t tell, but it moved way too fast for anything around here. Didn’t it? With a glance back to the house, reached in to grab his holster and coat then closed the door tight, and took off after it, into the field. Looking around he noticed it dart by once again, frowning at it.
“Come on, ya little blighter. What are you?” He mumbled under his breath, making chase. It was a short time later that he realized he ran through a gate, into a strange carnival. Coming to a stop he looked… well, boggled. Where the hell did this come from? Turning around he frowned, hand on his holster, resting on the Good Samaritan. He tossed back the coat a bit, to show it off, in case anyone was watching.
So, was it some weird Carnival on the supernatural level? Because it didn’t like normal to him. “Hello?”
Any Other Details We Should Know - I don’t think so? Is this one of those “Did you read the rules” thing cus I know I did but maybe I missed it. Ah, but seriously, nope. Nothing else!
