I sometimes post on the Straight Dope Messageboard, and Jim Beaver has dropped in a few times to talk about his research on the death of George Reeves (he posted under the username jumblejim, and you can read his posts here: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=380703). Isn't that cool? That's totally cool. Jim is cool. Yeah.

And Bobby, too.

Yeah, Jim Beaver's dropped by here, too. LOL. I knew that he was a George Reeves scholar (boy, that doesn't really sound right, but there you go), and a writer. But thanks for the link -- I'll have to check it out in order to feed my unhealthy obsession.

The board thread makes it sounds like he has written books? Or is writing a book? A look around online doesn't find anything, though - is he a writer as well?

Amazon lists his book on the silver screen star John Garfield (http://www.amazon.com/John-Garfield-His-life-films/dp/0498018903/sr=1-2/qid=1171245241/ref=sr_1_2/105-2933867-6797225?ie=UTF8&s=books).

Books in Print lists that as the only book he wrote (at least, under James N. Beaver) that is in or out of print....so I'm not quite sure what to make of that messageboard comment about him being one of the finest biographers around (or whatever it was), unless that John Garfield book is really good.

Which, hey, Jim Beaver is awesome, so it very well could be just that good.

Books in Print also lists the book as being out of print in the US but still in print in the UK.

Huh. Cool. I wish the fan sites i looked at - and the other sites as well - had more of his writing. Unless this is *all* he wrote.

ABEbooks.com is sure to have a few copies... Thanks for the link!

Ooh, I just wanted to add -- make sure you check out the back cover of the book on Amazon! Let's see, he's from Laramie, WY (I lived in SE Montana for two years, so I'd love him for this alone), he's a Vietnam vet, and he's worked as a movie projectionist, disc jockey, cabdriver, and as a gunfighter in Oklahoma's Frontier City. Could he rock any harder? *sigh*

You said he had wandered through here in the past? Did he post a comment? Did he read "Red" and think you were awesome, too? :)

I feel like a bona fide git for pointing it out, since it's always nice to get noticed for getting something wrong and because it just could be any old person posting, but decide for yourself. See the comments.

Well, it could be just anybody, but I'm inclined to think it's really him -- for one, he signed his SDMB posts with his real name, too.

And now I feel like a dork.

Jim Beaver still rocks, though. :)

No need to feel like a dork, at ALL. I'm the one with inordinate amounts of mud on my face. It's nice to get noticed and all, but not for fucking up someone's daughter's name, for crying out loud.

And I had no idea about all the SDMB posts, which actually made me think that the person who posted on Beaverwood might be the real deal. Or not. Sometimes it's a whole lot less harrowing to think that no one's watching, eh?

Jim Beaver rocks harder than Fred and Barney combined, that is the truth.
