this is going to sound kind of pointless, but it's just a peeve that really got to me just now...

you know who i really REALLY dislike on muchmusic? jen hollet? (the girl with the short red hair?)
she was interviewing destiny's child and was like "SO... you believe in the company McDonald's enough to sell your song to, but do you believe in their HAMBURGERS?"
Beyonce is like "well, yea... i mean YOU eat mcdonalds."
Jen: "haha NO, no i don't."
Destiny's Child: "Well... they have served over 47 billion people... so that means success."

i'm sorry, anybody that hasn't said they have never eaten McDonald's is either a lier or has grown up in an environment where they had parents or religious beliefs or something that prevented them from eating it. this might be the case with miss jen, but i'm not giving her the benefit of the doubt because she pissed me off a bit.

now, the conversation doesn't sound like much, but it was the way that jen said it... like it's great to be all into the cause and fighting the corporation, but really, why are you going to stoop to a level like that and try to make yourself look better than other people? because you think you're hot shit cause you're doing an interview with an incredibly popular girl group? no, sorry, i really don't agree with that.
then muchmusic proceeded to make fun of singers lending their songs to corporations (Justin to McDonalds, Destiny's Child to McDonalds, U2 to the iPod)
in case anybody hasn't noticed, there really aren't any true musicians that have a hit song/record ou there. they instantly become a little conglomerate of their own when their song hits #1. now, if i could make millions of dollars just by signing a paper letting some company use my song in some commercials and showing up to do a little press junket to promote it, then FUCK YES i would do it. think of what the money could do!!! and no i'm not talking cars and clothes, i'm talking setting your entire family up FOR LIFE and donating to good causes... but people automatically think that when a singer/group sells their song for use they 'sell out.'

as miss jen did with destiny's child... let's see, you made fun of a VERY successful group to their faces, tried to seem superior to them, then wound up not proving anything in the end and looking like some prissy bitch who prides herself by standing on some insignificant morals that has become a petty trend. (and we wonder why celebrities don't come to canada? cause they don't want to get shit on for making a smart business decision that DID NOT hurt anybody) i don't eat McDonald's either, but it isn't for anything as noble as not eating to go against the corporation... it makes me feel like shit, therefore i don't eat it.

granted there are celebrities who have built their careers on selling out... i.e. ashlee simpson who is only famous cause she can carry a tune and her big sister is jessica simpson, hilary duff who was once a manufactured Disney princess but decided she could do better..., lindsay lohan who should have stuck to acting..., kelly clarkson who although has an awesome voice is the result of a gimmick called American idol, good charlotte who are possibly the most loathsome 'band' to ever EVER come into existence...

but then one has to stop to think... when it comes down to it, it's about money. and from what i've noticed the music industry isn't exactly what it was back in the days of Motown and Elvis. Singers today make a million dollars just by fixing their names to the tiniest piece of merchandise. and people out there that say that they wouldn't do it, i seriously beg to differ. i'm not going to lie, i would do it in a heartbeat. but that's just me. there are musicians out there that are incredibly happy with playing at small venues and not having a #1 song or record and not being well known, and that is totally okay because that is the way they have decided to live, out of the public eye and not so much in seclusion but not well-known enough to worry about the impact they could have on a population of people. what's the difference between choosing to do that and choosing to take off with a #1 record and capitalizing off of that like HUNDREDS of artists are doing? I'm not even going to name any because there's so many!

and as Bono from U2 pointed out when he was questioned on using his song to promote the iPod, he basically said that if people wanted to keep to themselves then they should not be in that particular business of entertainment. people are in that business to be in the public. that's part of it.

so yea... brad pitt and jennifer aniston broke up. fucking eh!?!
