Crossing the Gay Color Lines

Mar 13, 2007 13:14

I realize it's been ages since I've posted anything here. Just hadn't felt compelled to talk about anything. Until today. I recently came across an article discussing racial issues among the gay community. I know a lot of you out there probably don't want to think about such things, but after reading this piece (from AfterElton), I felt like sharing it with others.

It brings up several issues that I have personally felt strongly about but never really talked to anyone about. Including the representation (or lack thereof) of people of color in gay media, racial prejudice amongst the gay community, the pros and cons of comparing the Gay Rights Struggle to the Civil Rights Stuggle, the "N" word vs. the "F" word among other things.

I found it quite fascinating because, I have always maintained that the Gay Community is a microcosm of society in general. And this discussion (in my opinion) sort of proves that to be the case, at least as far as this topic is concerned.

Read at you leisure. I'm interested to see your take on this matter.

P.S. I promise my next post will be completely light-hearted and frivolous!
