disturbing ideas

In class on Friday morning we were talking about the morality of abortion. While that topic alone is very interesting, something that hits me a little bit closer to home was brought up. A leader of one of the southern baptist anti-homosexuality groups was speaking last and admitted to the fact that homosexuality was indeed genetic. This seems to be a "duh" kind of thing, right? Well, he went on to talk about scans that can be performed on unborn babies to determine brain abnormalities thanks to the partial mapping of the human gene structure(or something like that. I'm not a science guy so I could be a bit off on the specifics of that statement.) It is a fact that sometime in the future the entire human genetic code will be able to be mapped. The baptist leader said that once this happens, scans will be able to be done to determine what the sexual orientation of a person will be. In this case, the leader said that the problem could then be "fixed" before birth.
My heart stopped for what felt like a minute after hearing that. I can't describe the feeling of terror that went through me; knowing that someday there would be the ability to create an entirely heterosexual race. It isn't that like some kind of genocide? It's not that they'd be aborting the children yet at the same time they'd be taking away a part of the person. That disgusts me to no end. Kind of disturbing, wouldn't you say?
