So.... my courses are generally going well...
The Business Communication (was billed as writing but it is more general) is Not bad at all... Im pretty adept with language soo its more or less honing skills I already have.
Accounting makes my brain hurt, but its math, and I was good at math, and will be again with a little practice.
Human Resources Management I would say is going ok... I have completed 3 assignments and done the last quiz this week... and there in lies the problem. I got a few wrong answers, and they were my mistakes, bad me. But one of the quiz questions asked about TQM, and probably anyone in a business environment will go "Oh... TQM.... blah blah blah". I have never encountered it before, had no idea what it was. So I reviewed my text... reviewed the online lecture materials (which basically say go read the text), and reviewed the textbook company's online supplements... no mention of TQM.
So I send off a polite note to the prof asking where i can review so I have a better understanding for the final. His reply:
"TQM stands for "Total Quality Management". This is now a very common and often quoted management approach that emphasizes a pre-occupation with, and steps to ensure, high quality and customer satisfaction. Unlike the typical pre-occupation with short term profits it emphasizes long term relationships and reputation and company survival."
A nice definition, but not much to study from. So I send another politely worded request for where I can find more info, and get:
"Any basic management text will give you details on TQM."
I am feeling dismissed. I am also feeling PISSED OFF. In an introductory course Im being tested on "common management approaches" not even mention anywhere in the curriculum? If I have no clue this thing exists how the hell am I supposed to know to look it up and study it??! Now honestly it is one mark, on a quiz that counts for 10% of the final mark... not a big deal... BUT SERIOUSLY?!?!!!!? Its the principle of the thing.
At this point I am trying to decide wheather to drop it... or push on about testing knowledge not covered by the course.
