first of all, comparing oppressions and using the black civil rights movement in the U.S. as the template for all forms of oppression is usually pretty messed up to begin with.
second of all, and more importantly w/r/t to this busted ass posted and this ridiculous "activism" - gay and lesbian people have no categorical systemic privilege over bisexual people. there is no such fucking thing as institutional homosupremacy. and "monosexism" is not a real fucking oppression - the monosexual imperative is rooted in straight people's desire to be cleanly seperated from HOMOS. this is why "bisexual rights activists" irritate the living fuck out of a lot of us, including some of us (hi!) who date/fuck/have relationships with people of more than one gender.
if being told that you're "gay, straight, or lying" or to "pick a team" by some homos is the worst thing that's ever happened to these people? BOO FUCKING HOO. everything i have experienced- the ass beatings, the death threats, the rejection from family and friends, the mistrust of straight partners... all rooted in homophobia, transphobia, and sexism.
and you know, i usually keep my mouth shut about how there's never been a substantial, logical argument against what seems obvious to a lot of us who are genderqueer/variant: that bisexuality reifies binary gender. but you know, seeing dumb shit like this sure as hell makes me want to talk about it more.
the fact that the OP blames the bi community for not being visible enough? that's just comic relief for what is otherwise already a steaming pile of fail.
Excuse me, I am a queer person who identified as bisexual for most of my life. I'm not "shitting on others" except people who seem to fundamentally fail at understanding what oppression actually is. I've been rejected by homosexual people who didn't want to date someone they feared would end up in a heterosexual relationship, and you know what? Maybe it wasn't fair on the interpersonal level, but in the context of queer lives, it's also fucking understandable. And it is NOT oppression or "persecution." At best, it's just... being an asshole. But oh, no, NEVER AGAIN THE 'PICK A TEAM' TIMES!!!
this whole "more persecuted than thou" game, which IMO is the main cause of the division and misunderstanding within the GLBT community.
Uh, no, it's racism, misogyny, classism, transphobia, femiphobia, and other actual forms of oppression that create "division" in the "community."
It makes you no better than the dicks who gave you the beatings and called you the names.
Wow, you really are an asshole.
means being a wee bit more concerned about homosexual marriage being legalized and a little less concerned about whether or not the bi community gets recognition in a stupid film awards show.
...except same legal sex marriage is primarily an issue for otherwise privileged LGBs and actively drains resources, time, and political capital from issues that actually make a difference in people's life chances. It's pretty much your privileged concerns vs. his privileged concerns there.
