While I agree with you that bisexuality should not be swept under the carpet, I take issue with:
But the bisexual community? Well, we have done shit to promote and support mainstream images of bi themed movies, shows, characters or performers. So busy with self promotion and supporting local, grassroot pet projects that when someone comes out as bi we read about it in some blog, it hits the media for one day and then back to our potlucks we go.
Yeah, this is all the bisexual communities fault. It's not the fault of say, an ignorant society who loves to spread myths about what bisexuals are (we just want to steal your partner/we're greedy/we don't exist/we're just doing it to titillate people.) That you point the finger at the bi community for this seems to me to ignore the bigger issue at hand.
And what do you mean by "even" trans people? Switch that to even "even bisexuals" and you might see where I'm coming from. Or am I being "too PC?"
Excuse me, I am a queer person who identified as bisexual for most of my life. I'm not "shitting on others" except people who seem to fundamentally fail at understanding what oppression actually is. I've been rejected by homosexual people who didn't want to date someone they feared would end up in a heterosexual relationship, and you know what? Maybe it wasn't fair on the interpersonal level, but in the context of queer lives, it's also fucking understandable. And it is NOT oppression or "persecution." At best, it's just... being an asshole. But oh, no, NEVER AGAIN THE 'PICK A TEAM' TIMES!!!
this whole "more persecuted than thou" game, which IMO is the main cause of the division and misunderstanding within the GLBT community.
Uh, no, it's racism, misogyny, classism, transphobia, femiphobia, and other actual forms of oppression that create "division" in the "community."
It makes you no better than the dicks who gave you the beatings and called you the names.Wow, you really are an
