I cleared off my social calendar Friday night so I could watch the series finale of Battlestar Galactica. I stayed glued to my tv through most of it, taking advantage of the DVR so I could rewind little bits and pieces. Noticed some interesting details, like Kara almost started a fire in the table scene. After the finale was over, I turned off the tv and tried to decide what I thought of the finale. And all I could think of was that there's too much confusion...
I will need to re-watch the episode before I can decide whether it was good or bad. It was definitely not what I was expecting. Well, the first hour was, with the major space battle and the rescue mission. I called a few things exactly right, though they weren't all that difficult to predict. Hera was rescued. The final five Cylons offered Resurrection technology to Cavil. Brother Cavil dies (didn't exect it to be by his own hand). President Roslin died. Gaius was redeemed. Gaius and Caprica fell in love, and they saved Hera. Adama ended up alone.
I also loved, loved LOVED the use of the old-school cylons, and the way that the original Battlestar Galactica theme was worked into the show. THAT was fun.
What I didn't expect was for the battle and the rescue to be completed in the first hour. I expected the battle to boil down to Cavil -vs- Baltar, but didn't expect the conflict would be resolved by a lengthy bit of exposition. I didn't expect Lee to also engage in a lengthy bit of exposition about starting over. I didn't expect Adama to agree to destory the fleet. I didn't expect the never-ending farewells, as each character went on their separate way.
And there were a couple of things that were so horrible I wish they hadn't have been written. Head Gaius and Head Six are angels? [bleh] Hera's importance was simply for her remains to be discovered? Adama puking all over himself? WTF?
Anyway, like I said, I'll need to re-watch it, now that I have my expectations set, to see how I feel about it now.
