criticalcapture This is my first fic, so any comments would be appreciated (be nice though ^^). Not a great writer, but I need to keep practice in order to polish my writing.
To be honest, this is not the original story. This is like the third draft I have written for suhomygahd, I just couldn't finish the other two. They were getting to big and to complex, plus finals were killing me. However, I am hopeful that I will be able to finish the other two soon! I hope you at least kind of like this one. Promise a better fic soon.
I wrote this in one day, so there is bound to be MANY mistakes! I need a beta lol.*throws the fic into the deep end without even rereading it.
Prompt: In which Jongdae is learning how to drive and he accidentally bumps into rich Junmyeon's porsche.
Jongdae is not the type to curse or even get mad. His mom has always told him to turn the other cheek when it came to fights. Yet, he can’t help it if the anger and desperation is bubbling inside of him. Right now he is like a shaken up soda bottle, all that is needed for full blast off is a piece of Mentos. That piece of candy came in a small red-hot Toyota driven by an old lady.
"Oh my God, did you see that! That old lady just flicked me off!" Jongdae exclaims as he points in the direction of the small Toyota. The whole situation would have been funny, if for one: he wasn't stuck in rush hour, two: Baekhyun would stop singing to Mariah Carey, and three: the fact that this is only his third time driving.
"Fuck off, you old hag! You shouldn't be out in the streets either way! You too asshole, if you want to cut me off do it quick and clean!!"
“That is what your mom said!" Baekhyun announces. The other two passengers in the back of the truck start to laugh.
"Really Baek, really? Keep at it and ill castrate you!" Jongdae yells. "It wasn't even that funny," he mumbles.
Baekhyun just beams and whispers, ‘Baek wins another'.
"On the subject of castration, I need to pee" this time is Yixing who speaks. "Like really bad."
"No! No one is getting out of this freaking ca... Oohhhh noooo sir. NOT TODAY! I AM NOT LETTING YOU GO IN FRONT OF ME. GET IN LINE, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!!" Jongdae shook his fist this time. He was really tired of people skipping line. He really wanted to get out of this hellhole. The hellhole that consisted of four lanes, two currently under construction and a bunch of idiotic drivers in the most populated and traffic hazard place in downtown. Cars came from all directions; some trying to get out of the shopping centers while other were trying to get into the shopping centers. It was beehive madness in here. The only difference is that nothing sweet would be coming out of this situation.
"Come on dude, I don't think you want me to pee in your car. I don't think anyone wants me to pee right here."
"I actually have to pee too!" Chanyeol sings out loud.
"Me three!" Baekhyun adds.
"Well all of you can get out of my car right now. You will have to find your way home some how. I don't care, cuz all I want to do is get home and never drive again," Jongdae states as he looks side to side.
"I'll tell your mom you were driving without her permission," the oh-so-hopeful and caring Yixing speaks up.
And that is all that is needed in order to have Jongdae illegally make a U-turn and crossing a red light on a congested and highly dangerous street.
"I hate you all!" It is not that Jongdae is scare of his mom (he is), it is just that his mom gets too worry about him. He wouldn't like to see his mom's sad little face when she is informed that Jongdae could have died today.
Jongdae is a grown man... That still lives with his parents. It is only temporary until he graduates from college, which hopefully should be in a year (that is if he doesn't change his major for the third time). He doesn't know how to drive a car, because he has never really had any need. The bus was just a block away from his house and his very cute mother has always insisted that she could drive him to anywhere he wanted to go. Yeah, Jongdae is a mama's boy (a very proud one at that). He usually never breaks the rules but after some insistence from his friends and some bribing (all three promised to buy him lunch for the next week), he caved in. Jongdae insisted that since it is his car ("Mom's car," Chanyeol corrects) he should drive.
Well, that was a bad decision. He probably won't get any free food (they were all broke college students) and he might die tonight. Sigh, the life of the poor.
"Look! There is a spot over there!" someone yells. "Go! Go! Go! Go!" All three of the passengers scream in unison. Another thing about this section of the city, there is never parking. And if there is, it is only parallel parking.
"Ummmm. Guys, I don't know how to park," Jongdae says as he looks around. The cars behind him were starting to honk. Jongdae’s car was blocking traffic and a highly wanted parking space.
"I'll direct you. Just drive a little bit further, then back, then straighten up, then Voilà!" Baekhyun says.
"Ummm, maybe you can do it?" Jongdae asks as he looks at the cars behind him.
"Not my car, remember?" Jongdae gives Baekhyun a look. "I can't. I am just repeating what the man on the defensive driving tape said." Baekhyun shrugs.
"I am pretty sure that is not all that he said, Baek!" Yixing adds. Jongdae is now looking a Yixing with hopeful eyes. "Sorry man. Can't either." Everyone now turns to Chanyeol. To everyone's dismay, he doesn't know.
"I'll get out of the car and I'll tell you how much you can back up," Chanyeol says.
"I'll tell you how much you can move up!" Baekhyun and Chanyeol get out of the car.
They managed to get out of the traffic lane, but they weren't so successful with actually getting into the small space between the Porsche and the BMW.
"Guys, I don't think this is working. We have been at it for the last 5 minutes. It's kind of embarrassing," Yixing say as he peeks his head out of the window. He promptly covers his head with his hoodie.
"Just a little more, Jongdae. A little more...more…aaaand... stOh. Oh! I forgot I needed to go to the restroom," Baekhyun says before he takes off running. "Sorry, man!"
"Did we just hit… a car," Yixing whispers the last words, as if that could actually hide the fact that Jongdae hit the Porsche in front of him. Both, Yixing and Jongdae get out of the car. Both had dumbfounded faces.
"It's only a small, itty-bitty scratch. No one is going to notice," Chanyeol say as he fidgets in place.
"You do know, these type of people love their cars. I once touched Fan's car with my hands. He flipped cuz I had some mud in my hands. I thought we were going to break up. It was an old BMW Convertible, he puts so much money into it," Yixing sighs. "Just quickly move down. The alarm hasn't even turned on."
As if on cue, the alarm goes off.
"I forgot I have to go pee too." Chanyeol yells as he takes off running.
"Me three!" Yixing follows.
"Those fuckers. Fuck! What do I do?! Mama is going to kill me!!! I need to leave, but too many witnesses," Jongdae says as he looks around. "Maybe if I use my nonexistent taekwondo skills on them...mhhhh," Jongdae was now starting to squirm in place; desperation was slowly creeping up on him. " I should probably leave a note. Yes, that is the right thing to do!"
Satisfied with his note, Jongdae leaves the crime scene. Backing up and driving off like the idiotic drivers around him.
"Its going to be ok, Jongdae. It is gonna be ok. The person is going to see the note and understand everything that happened. You mom won't know," he murmurs to himself as he drives off towards the opposite direction of his house. Five minutes later he realizes he is going in the wrong direction.
Back at the crime scene, one of the two gentlemen slowly made his way to the Porsche. He inspects the scratch on the back of the bumper, making a note of the length. Then he walks towards the front of the car. He grabs the note on the windshield. He chuckles before bidding goodbye to his comrade. He dials a number and waits for someone to answer, "Hey, about that favor you owe me."
~
Jongdae is finally in the safety and comfort of his home. He can relax now. "What was done is done, all is in the past," He tells himself. As he is about to fall asleep, his phone rings. Already knowing who its is, he answers the phone.
"You ass, you left us!" Baekhyun screams.
"Did you get arrested or robed?" Jongdae asks.
"No."
"Then, that is a pity. I am sorry, I will try to make things more difficult the next time I leave all of y'all behind," Jongdae says with a sarcastic, but menacing tone.
"Dude, come on. We didn't mean to run, we…we just had to go pee pretty bad. Plus I am too pretty to go to jail."
"Tell him we are sorry and we will buy him food for the next two weeks," Yixing says.
"I wont promise such thing. I can barely feed myself!" Baekhyun retorts.
"That is because you only eat out at restaurants. Maybe if you try to eat the food we make, you wouldn't have this problem," Chanyeol adds to the conversation.
"Maybe if you guys knew how to cook, we wouldn't be discussing this!"
Jongdae starts to laugh at this point. He really can't stay mad at them. He knew they were little shits; they were all little shits. They were the little shit gang. He couldn't have made it through four years of college without them. He thinks he will need them until the day he vanishes from this earth, maybe even in the afterlife. They were the only thing keeping him from drowning in the pool of confusion and desperation that is school.
"Guys! If you guys are done, maybe you can make your way to my house and maybe pick up Yixing's phone and maybe you guys might get a taste of my mom's cooking," Jongdae says, hoping that they would stop arguing. As much fun as it was hearing them argue over the phone, he would rather like to watch the whole spectacle unfold right in his living room. What are dramas compare to the ‘Three Roommates'. He liked his dramas live, with spit and curses flying out of their mouths (sometimes when Yixing was in the mood, Jongdae would hear streams of colorful Chinese). He mostly loved being able to add commentary whenever the fire seemed threaten by the cool sensation of realization, consideration, and regret.
"We will be there!" The roommates say in perfect unison.
Not ten minutes later, he hears the doorbell ring. Jongdae screams loud enough for the other side to hear, "Guys, mom hasn't arrive. We will have to wait an hour before we get to eat!"
Jongdae opens the door; right in front of him is a pretty boy.
"Um, high my name is Luhan. Are you Jongdae?" The pretty Luhan says.
"Yeah. Can I help you?"
"Is that truck yours?"
"Umm nooo. I think my neighbor parked there, cuz he didn't have space in his garage, I guess. You have the wrong house." Seeing that Luhan wasn't buying it, Jongdae tries to close the door. This pretty boy turns out to be rather strong.
"Is this the guy?" Luhan yells to someone.
"Yeah. That is my guy," The stranger in the bushes speaks up. Curious to know who said those words and why those exact words, Jongdae allows the door to fully open, sending Luhan flying onto the carpet.
Another pretty boy comes out of the bushes, but this one came with a very handsome and white set of teeth. How can teeth be handsome? Jongdae doesn't know, but he knows they are. The smile plaster on the boys face kept on shinning as he approaches Jongdae.
"I believe this is yours." Smiley (Jongdae's nickname for the stranger) says as he hands Jongdae the piece of paper with Jongdae's handwriting: IOU. Sorry :<
‘Oh. Ooohhh. Oh!' Jongdae mind finally makes the connections. "You were there weren't you? Look, I am very sorry but I can't fix it. I am a college student," Jongdae looks at smiley (why is he still smiling). "It's only a small scratch after all." Smiley was now Frowny. "Maybe if you come back in like five years, I might be able to fix the scratch!" Jongdae adds, hoping this guy would leave before his mom got home. Frowny was now Laughy.
‘A pretty laugh, with a pretty face,' Jongdae thinks as he stares at Laughy.
"Maybe, I can talk to your mom," it is Smirkys turn.
"How about no. She is not here."
"I can wait."
Jongdae sighs. "Maybe we can sort this out right now. No third parties? Ok?"
~
It has been a week since he started to wash the Porsche. Jongdae now thinks the pretty smile might not be so pretty. Especially when the owner is right in front of him, siting on a comfortable chair, sipping on God-knows-what, while holding his phone and ordering him around.
"I need to supervise you. I don't need another scratch on my car," Smiley had told him on his first day on the job.
It has been a long week, everyday afterschool he has been picked up by Smiley and brought to Smiley's home so he can personally clean his car. This was the agreement that was made on the night of the accident. Smiley had said, "With the money I will save, I will be able to fix my car." According to Smiley, it will take him a month or so for the bill to be paid.
"Three more weeks," Jongdae mumbles to himself as he scrubs at a particular part Smiley insist is still dirty- "I can see everything from this angle. You haven't finished the job right down there".
It wasn't so bad though. He was fed and watered whenever he asks for it. The envy looks his fellow classmates would give him every time that Porsche appeared, weren't unwelcomed either. Smiley had even given his friends rides (except for Yixing, he had made very inappropriate comments about the relationship between Jongdae and his boss. Jongdae had banned him). The pretty smile, Smiley would throw at him wasn't unwelcomed either (though irritating whenever he made a request). Smiley wasn't a bad boss. He was bossy, but not that bad.
Two more weeks pass. Jongdae meets Smiley's parents and brother. He finally learns that Smiley has a name
"My son's name is Joonmhyun," Joonmhyun's mother chuckles. "I wonder what you have been calling him all this time?" Her smile seems to twinkle just like her sons.
He also learns that Smiley (Jongdae will forever use this name) has money, hence explains the Porsche but doesn't explain why Jongdae is working for him. He didn't ponder too much on the question. All that is important to him at the moment is the steak and lobster in front of him.
By the last week, Smiley had become a permanent person in Jongdae's life. Smiley was dragged everywhere and would paid for 80% of the excursions (Jongdae had tried to pay many times, but only succeeded a few times). Yixings teasing had grown ten-fold, by now everyone including Yixing's boyfriend had joined in. No one got banned, because Jongdae didn't mind it so much anymore. He might actually have a crush on Smiley.
On the last day, Jongdae was actually sad. Smiley noticed this, when he finished polishing the inside of his car (Smiley had started to help him after the second week) he suggested to go for one last ride as employee and boss. Smiley smiles, Jongdae can't find himself to say no.
The night is cool and the night is clear. A full moon and a few stars adorn the sky. Jongdae will miss cleaning this car and his smiling owner. Jongdae hopes they will be able to meet as often as they did the past month. His memory starts to play a movie Jongdae has already watched several times. It starts on the what could have been the worst day of his life. Every detail afterwards is painted perfectly, especially the twinkle in both Smiley's eyes and smile. From the form of his lips when he pouts to the derp face his makes when he is embarrassed, all is projected in 3D in Jongdae's mini theater. Jongdae has become so engrossed in his movie that he failed to notice that Smiley had been staring at him for a while.
Smiley laughs and says, "You are too cute."
Jongdae eyes widen, he looks around to find his house to his left. Smiley laughs again.
"Oh. We are here," Jongdae manages to mutter.
Smiley just smiles, "Go on home. Quickly, I have something very important to do tonight."
Jongdae doesn't say anything as he gets out of the car. Disappointment is the least he can say he feels. He is angry but not at Smiley, but at himself for expecting something, anything on the last day of work.
“Maybe I should have made a move”, he murmurs to himself. As Jongdae reaches the door of the house, he hears the car door open. Soon after Smiley yells, "Thank you Jongdae for the hard work. You were a great employee!"
Jongdae quickly goes into his house. No one is home. "That is good," he says to himself. "I can cry myself to sleep." Before he can reach his room, his phone rings. It's Baekhyun. Jongdae wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone, but he answers the call.
"We are coming over," Baekhyun says.
"Why?" Jongdae breathes out. It was getting harder to breathe.
"Something precious of ours is going to get robbed tonight. We would just like to share our sorrow with you!"
"Tell him we love him!" Yixing seems to cry out.
"Shut up!" Baekhyun yells.
"Let him be. You can't stop a man from loving," Chanyeol voice starts to crack as he speaks.
"Shut up you two! You are going to make me cry," Baekhyun cries out.
Jongdae starts to laugh. He starts to tear up as well. The four members of the shitty gang were all crying like little girls (Jongdae didn't know why the other party was crying though). Jongdae however wasn't too sad anymore. Maybe he did need them to come over. "Guys! Come over, I think I have ice cream in my fridge. Maybe you guys can sleep over?"
"We will be there!" The roommates say in perfectly unison sobs.
Jongdae is eating mocha bread, when the door bell rings. He is a mess, face stained with tears and a mouth completely filled with bread. He expects to see the roommates when he opens the door. To his surprise he finds the pretty boy, Luhan staring and creepily smiling at him. He seems to be holding a small bouquet of flowers in his hands.
"Is this your guy?" Luhan yells to someone as he puts the bouquet in Jongdae's hands.
"I hope he is my guy!" Smiley says as he comes out of the bushes. As he makes his way towards the house, Joonmhyun's eyes are now twinkling and so is his smile. ‘Smiley is truly beautiful,' is Jongdae's only thought.
"I believe this is yours," Smiley announces as he hands Jongdae the piece of paper with Smiley's handwriting:
Jongdae things it's funny how it all started. Who new that hitting someone's expensive car would actually turn out to be the best thing he could have ever done. Maybe destiny did know how much his friends were essential to his happiness. If it weren't for his friends stupidity, he wouldn't be able to stare at Joonmhyun as he peacefully sleeps and randomly whimpers and kicks at night. Maybe this can actually turn out to be a happy ending.
A/n: #Howtoend. Do you guys want to know why lu owes joon? Cuz he put in a good word for him. He is actually dating min (he is joon older bro)! Gosh, I just had to put my otps in there too.
Is it weird that I kinda cried at the end? Lol This was like a challenge for me; I am kinda proud that I actually wrote a fic!
I apologize for the lack of suchen moments. Hope it was at least readable.
