i finished reading the great gatsby (fitzgerald) a few days ago. the prominent themes in the novel had to do with the glittering yet bleak era of the jazz age, the hollow emptiness of the american dream and behind those scenes, the rise and fall of the ambitious gatsby. the characters may have lacked depth (at least in my opinion); but what fitzgerald saw during those seemingly prosperous times was atmospherically perceptive. i take my hat off to his brilliance.
books i bought in the last 5 days or so...
catch 22, joseph heller
hotel honolulu, paul theroux
possession: a romance, a.s. byatt
the matisse stories, a.s. byatt
1984, george orwell
the catcher in the rye, j.d. salinger
also bought a few albums today. i hate the fact that i can't find some of those i want here.
the darkness, lost in translation
pearl jam, lost dogs
fallen, evanescence
supergrass is 10, supergrass
the soul sessions, joss stone
three days grace, three days grace
room on fire, the strokes
so you see...it's no wonder why i'm quite broke.
