Here come ol' Flat Top...

Another odd West Virginia placename. I found it in an article about

Winterplace Ski Resort, 100 Old Flat Top Mt. Rd., Ghent, WV 25843

The town name, as well as the road, is sometimes given as Flat Top, WV, instead of Ghent.  Catchier.  John Lennon never sang "Here come ol' Ghent..."  (So of course I've got that song stuck in my head now. Nothing unusual. It's been there much of the last 40 years.)

It's a ski resort about 15 miles south of Beckley, and about 275 miles from here, if you take the route Google Maps recommends, which is the usual way people from Weirton go downstate, which involves going through Ohio (more Interstates). Though Google suggests taking U.S. 22 west to 77 slightly north of Cambridge. But 22 isn't a four-lane highway for a large chunk of that route, so most people here would go down Ohio Rt. 7 (which is four-lane, though not restricted access for most of it) downriver to  just across from Wheeling, then take I-70 to Cambridge and then down 77.

Map here which if I'm lucky should show the route as well as the locations.
