Another thing you'd never expected from the previous Administration: the whitehouse.gov blog

Jan 20, 2009 15:41

At noon, just as Obama officially became President*, the White House website http://www.whitehouse.gov changed.

It has a blog.

And the blog has an LJ feed: whitehousegov.

The White House can be your LJ friend. (Another thing some of us never thought during the previous Administration!) Friend the White House now!

*According to the 20th amendment, the new president and vice-president take office at noon. The swearing-in apparently is just a formality, which is probably lucky since Chief Justice Roberts seemed to be having trouble reading or remembering the proper wording.

** (A footnote without a preceding reference!) There's probably a feed somewhere for Aretha's version of "America" but it's been my earworm since I heard it on the radio on my way to work (like Obama's administration, I started work at noon). Thus the "music" listed for this entry is sort of virtual. We used to sing that song in grade school every morning as part of the starting-the-day ritual along with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord's Prayer. You can't do the latter in public schools now, which is probably just as well (though I know lots of people who disagree) but I wonder if they still sing.
