Rest in peace, John.
Bartleby.com's homepage lists John as their Biography for today, though
the link is to the article on the Beatles. (The source is from the Columbia Encyclopedia, which in print is one volume, so I guess they didn't feel they had room for articles on the Beatles separately.)
The daily
Quotation is from John, too: "You either get tired fighting for peace, or you die."
It was a week after I'd first seen Bruce Springsteen in concert -- and had met him (see yesterday's post). I was sitting in the living room of my apartment (where I lived before I bought my little green house) thinking about that, and Johnny Carson was starting his monologue so it was a little after 11:30 Eastern U.S. time, and NBC interrupted the monologue for a special report. "This better be important," I said aloud, though there was no one else around.
It was. John Lennon was dead. Assassinated.
In a lot of ways, I don't think it's ever quite been the same since.
I'm at work, at the reference desk in the public area, so the "music" below is only virtual, playing in the jukebox in my head:
(UPDATE at 7:50 p.m EDT: I just created a Beatles icon for this post.)
