A new (to me) blog

WVFILM is a blog about West Virginia culture, especially films and filmmaking, by Steve Fesenmeier, longtime film and research librarian at the West Virginia Library Commission (our state library). I found out about it because Steve posted to LISNews about an interview the Lincoln Standard (from Lincoln County, WV) did an article about him after he tried to point out to them films relating to Lincoln County history.

Anyway, as an aside, Steve also mentioned his blog.

I've added it not only to my LJ syndication feeds and my My Yahoo feeds, but to my blogroll. I'm also noting the URL for the RSS feed here, because the one on the site itself is all munged and I had to play around with it to get it to work. It's http://thegazz.com/gblogs/wvfilm/feed/

Filkers may enjoy this post about legendary W.Va. politician Ken Hechler, who will be 93 in September -- he's three years and two months older than Senator Byrd. He worked in the White House when the President was Harry Truman, and later was a Congressman and the W.Va. Secretary of State. (I did vote for him.) Hechler is currently writing a book called “Faith, Hope and Parody”, which "will include many of the musical parodies he has written since he began his life as a West Virginia politician in 1958. He began by getting four young coeds from Marshall to sing his own version of a popular song by the McGuire Sisters, “Sugar Time.” They had won a Marshall song contest by singing it. The new version went, “Hechler in the morning, Hechler in the evening, Hechler at election time….”"

(Note: The Big Ugly Community Center, about which I posted a few months ago here, is in Lincoln County.)
