Violets in my side yard, between my house and my neighbor's.
Violets in the driveway, between the cracks in the concrete.
Violets in the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street.
Dandelions, too, and daffodils in the yard, and the irises and daylilies sprouting leaves! And some wildflower, or weed, I don't know.
The forsythias still have flowers, too, though they're starting to turn into leaves.*
But I think I love violets the best. They're so blue, and purple, and low and green like a carpet in the yard. And the driveway!
(I love violets the best at least until the lilacs come out -- lilacs smell so wonderful!)
When the violets grow in the yard, that's when I know it's really and truly spring.
*Technically not. But the flowers, which start while the branches are bare, fall off at the same time as the leaves start to sprout. So that's what it tends to look like.
