I had angharad's list. As it turns out, there were two books on it which I had already read (Ballet Shoes and Witch Week); I also read A Great and Terrible Beauty, which accordingly I have discussed at most length.

I'm actually not certain. I'm pretty sure that we're supposed to read Felicity, at least, as sort of awful at first, but later as more forgivably headstrong and young. Gemma I get the feeling we're supposed to like once she stops whining quite so abominably. It's possible that later books will grow her up more; this is, after all, the first in a trilogy, but it's not a trilogy I plan to read.

So you did find the time to read a new book! And even one you thought was terrible. I'm totally impressed. XD It doesn't sound like I'd like the book either, but your review was very entertaining.

Witch Week: you are SO RIGHT about the powerlessness of children and invisibility of evil themes. I was more struck by the "pun" in connection with the Britain-centrism of Jones' other Chrestomanci novel where Christopher comes in at the end, The Magicians of Caprona, than by any thematic connections to witch hunts, but now that you've mentioned it, I can totally see it.

Really want to read Ballet Shoes now.
