Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar

I'm so sorry everyone! I fail at life deadlines bibliophages.

Like worldserpent, I couldn't really judge the historical aspect of the book, since I have only the vaguest knowledge of the Roman period. But taking the book just for itself, it's a very interesting novel that threatens to run into some problems but ultimately avoids them.

Yeah, one does have to savor parts of it; I find it hard to say too much about the book without paraphrasing it. BTW, did you accidentally delete part of this entry?

Nope, it's an intentionally incomplete entry; I'm fighting sleep to try and type up the second part. =_= I just wanted the relief of having something posted already, argh. XD

And as you can see, I had to resort to outright quoting it to try and do it justice, so...

This review makes me want to read Memoirs of Hadrian a whole lot more than worldserpent's review did.
