I disagree! :)
This presumes that the home library, if it is a public space, is a site of display rather than of use. I object to this notion. My "library"* is not a museum! I have many books in my library that I have not yet read because I have bought them for coursework, or because I believe that they are books I will need sooner or later (e.g. Roland Barthes' "Elements of Semiology").

But it looks like that's just one guy's description of his own library, I don't think he intended it normatively.

*chaotic jumble of books, library or otherwise, in the general vicinity of two bookshelves, but often strewn about the futon, table, in piles on the floor, etc...

I like this commentator:

This reminds me of an anecdote I heard about a book collector. He would turn to the last page of each new book purchase and read the final sentence before putting it up on the shelf. Then when someone saw his collection and asked if he had read all those books, he would answer, "I’ve read every last word."

Books I haven't read yet tend to go on display because they're mostly newer (thus better looking) and I like them where I can see them, otherwise I'd forget to read them.

Another factor is that my taste in reading is always changing and I'd rather have books up that reflect what I'm reading now and not what I was reading in college or high school.
