i am linking to the paperback of
secret society girl because i like the cover way better than the hardcover, which i read. i think it's the preppy look, which i've always been fond of, and the fact that the hardcover is just way too pink for me. although i am fond of the color, overrepresentation of it in book packaging tends to bode poorly.
but secret society girl is really fun and i ended up liking it tons more than i expected myself to. taking place at a college, very much like yale, and what happens when junior amy haskell is tapped to become a member of a, duh, secret society, very much like skull and bones. only the fact that she - and a few of her fellow taps - happen to be females does not sit well with the old boys club, who happen to be some of the most powerful and well-connected men in the world. i love a good college story and i love books about mysterious characters draped in hoods and wielding power and i love a good story that lets you imagine that you are a fly on the wall in a room that you will never, ever in actuality be allowed into, so peterfreund book totally worked for me. and it's a breezy read, very easy to slip in and out of and finish quickly and have fun with the whole time. also, i am very entertained by her
blog, as she seems like a gal whom i would totally have a great time chatting with over drinks. i am quite looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
