First of all:
My first ALA conference! ^_^
And now on to the knittery . . . I've nearly finished the first installment of The Great Christmas Stocking Endeavour! (I had the idea recently to knit all the "sock" parts first, then go back and do the fuzzy fluffy Suri Dream cuffs at the same time.)
I decided to knit the stockings in seasonal order, starting with the MacNamara colourway (spring) for my mum. I'm calling this one Primavera on Ravelry because, well, I think the Italian's pretty. ^_^
Since this was My First Sock, I tried to make a point of taking progress picture at (some of) the different stages of construction.
"Leg" portion of stocking, with Measuring Sheep for scale (the "square" portion of the Measuring Sheep is aboutish 2.75"x2.75")
Heel flap (from both sides)
Turning the heel! I had a mishap the first time-I think I missed a stitch or something-and had to frog the whole heel as the slipped stitches made it tricky for me to unknit back to my mistake. (Wasn't there something bad omeny or suchlike about turning the heel incorrectly in The Thirteenth Tale?)
The stocking now has a foot! ^_^
Preparing to graft the toe! (When Bad Things Happen to Good Knitters [Marion Edmonds & Ahza Moore, 2007] has a helpful section on grafting-including diagrams [pgs. 114-119]. I also used the tutorial on KnittingHelp.com.)
I had a little "I CAN has Kitchener!" moment when I finished grafting the toe. I had to tighten the stitches (and I think the first one *still* needs more tightening), but overall I think it turned out nicely. ^_^ [Note: I played around with the colour balance in GIMP for this picture. I usually don't do this for knitting pictures, but I've been having such a hard time getting this colourway to actually show up as it's proper *teal*.]
The (nearly) finished stocking! I think my first experience with sock construction went quite well. ^_^
I cast on with the Doughterty colourway of Shamrock for my brother's stocking (L'estate on Ravelry) this past Wednesday and am nearly finished with the "leg" portion (that wonderful "Knit for 9 inches" bit of the pattern-excellent telly knitting!). ^_^ I probably won't be taking nearly as many "in progress" pictures for the rest of the Stocking Endeavour.
