"And people who believe in God think God has put human beings on the earth because they think human beings are the best animal, but human beings are just an animal and they will evolve into another animal, and that animal will be cleverer and it will put human beings in the a zoo, like we put chimpanzees and gorillas into a zoo. Or human beings will all catch a disease and die out or they will make too much pollution and kill themselves, and then there will only be insects in the world and they will be the best animal."
This may have been one of the easiest reads of my life (save for The Perks of Being a Wallflower). I try to read as much as I can which ends up being during my lunch break and for about 30mins before bed. However, there are days when I have to run a few errands during my quickly used up 60min lunch and then I'm left with a bit of time before bed. It normally takes me a week - ten days to finish a book (obviously depending on the length).
To be completely honest, I found it a little boring at times. I still enjoyed it though, don't get me wrong. Just not as much as I enjoyed A Spot of Bother. I must say that I am awfully glad I read A Spot of Bother before this one, or else I would have assumed every effort of his was like this and wouldn't have even cracked open the cover.
What I did enjoy about it was how it was never exactly stated what exact condition/syndrome Christopher had (
Aspergers). If I hadn't have read about it online I would have ended up wondering for the first few pages why he hated the colors yellow & brown so much, and why he couldn't stand to have people touch him.
I loved that it was written from his POV, and as if he wrote the book (his murder mystery about the dog). He is mathematically gifted and completely intoxicated with prime numbers, and so all of the chapters are prime numbers.
And although it's represented as a book about a boy trying to solve the murder of a neighbor’s dog, it ends up being about how much he changes simply because he successfully completed every day tasks that people without these conditions take for granted (taking the train is just one of them). I ended up realizing how hard it would be to live life like that. Not being able to stand being near a certain color? Hating to be touched? It's so hard and difficult to imagine, however, reading this book will quickly it into perspective for you.
