An uneven first effort in supernatural romance which starts off in an altogether predictable hate-at-first-sight interaction. Cliched elements are somewhat eased by less-conventional plotting and some charming elements of whimsy. The author has a knack for combining the imaginative and the ordinary in ways that keenly invoke a reluctant witch's slightly off-kilter perception of the world around her. That sort of humor helps me forgive some of the Dan Brown style cliffhanger plotting, and some ditheringly witless romantic exchanges. I'll read the next installment, while continuing to ask when exactly this pair of supposed academics are actually going to meet any of their intellectual obligations to the universities that employ them.
