Mark 15 and 16

Boy, seems like Mark is looking past the job at hand (writing the gospel)to get outside to play. He seems to pass on lots of the big stories that are in the other gospels, the repentance of one of the men crucified with Jesus and the forgiveness Jesus asked for the men who actually crucified him. Stay tuned, cause next up is Gospel According to Luke!

Mark's is the shortest and oldest Gospel, so it's anyone's guess where those other stories came from.

You're not gonna try to tell me that Luke and his cohorts embellished on those stories, are you? heeheehee

I'm finding the ending, with its various versions, very interesting. Seems like different people wanted to make one point or another about the women. The version in v.8 says "They said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid." Then another version is tacked on, with just Mary Magdalene, who does report back but is disbelieved (v.9-11). And then a footnote with third version found in some manuscripts: "[20] THE SHORTER ENDING - [And they reported all the instructions briefly to Peter's companions. Afterwards Jesus himself, through them, sent forth from east to west the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation. Amen ( ... )
