Not gonna lie, Sho is one of my bias' in Arashi, to the point where I actually watched all of Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de. That's how much i'd watch Sho act. I'm also aware that his acting is terrible.
That said the drama concept was actually very interesting. I like psychological thrillers and dramas and things with a (good) twist keeps me entertained. I've never watched the original nor the movie so I can't compare the storyline. Although the emo Sho was kinda dragged out, I wasn't actually watching for that.
Kamiki Ryunosuke who played the eldest son was the most interesting character and I think he held the role quiet well. The drama finally drops the bombshell to the Arashi fans that he is the main character and why everything is happening. From the start those watching would think it was Sho then move to Shigeyuki but when his problems are solved we're left with Sho's angst and the eldest son who lives the perfect model life from an outsiders point of view but he has his own issues and in a way it's not his fault he has turned out liked this.
The storyline developing to the point where he sees everything thats happening but is powerless to stop it is interesting. Ep 8 was almost like the finale when the family disintegrates and touches the point of no return. So when everyone does the whoe happy family again it feels like it's gone back to the typical Dorama of happy endings. I guess it's a good outset but it feels a bit rushed, again not the dramas fault as it's one season, so like dramas everything has to be squeezed into 10 eps or so. Again why i don't like watching doramas as they're generally cut short or rushed and not everything is thought through. Even chinese dramas that are about 20 eps are short to me!
This is probably why Sho's character was a bit flat. Only in the last episode or so eeeeeeverything is just expained. You are told the story but not the reasoning and you should accept that the real Yoshimoto was a douche and Sho does his best to correct that in a messed up way......
Probably because I watched it in Chinese subtitles maybe something is missed but thats how it seems to me.
It would have been good to have more of a background on Yoshimoto and Yuudai characters. But i like the subjects the drama touches on as it's prevalent in Asian countries. Having kids being honour students, the ideal family life, the ideal wife to the neighbours, peer pressure from friends, neighbours co-workers etc It's all something people can relate to. The only funny thing is the drama had a peak viewing in the last ep 3% more than the average viewing during the airing.......the people watched the most boring ep......or perhaps people just caught up with it over the net and watched the lat ep when it was aired because it was so good? lol =p
Anyway for once I actually do like Sho's drama, luckily though not for Sho but for the other characters. Fake Yoshimoto was interesting but juuuust not enough information about him is known to make him endearing. why he's so eccentric? can't he just be a calm Yoshimoto? =p he wasn't like that when he was teahing in school and the real Yoshimoto wasn't like that....so why did he create a character ...like that? not a bad thing, an honest teacher is good eventhough he'd probably have the social services or police on to him if he tried that shit in the UK! (^.^)
